Is there a way to hide the digital products you already own, anymore? I can't seem to find it
If there is: I certainly haven't found it... and my inner cynic says that's on purpose: exactly the same way that making acquiring your discounts for pre-owned content is a massive headache is on purpose. The necessary info is obviously already there for both; they just don't want YOU to easily access it.
I would definitely like to at least filter by things I already own. I would rather buy a book than just a piece from a book, personally, but the total removal of the ability to buy individual parts is really unfortunate for most people. That's a valuable resource. Maybe it's just gone as part of transitioning to the new marketplace?
Can't they at least give the option of filtering products that I already own. Really, d&d beyond is just going down the drain with all this bull moves.
It gets worse. If you purchased the Legendary bundle, a lot of books you own no longer carry the "you own this product" tag and it will allow you to purchase the content all over again.
It shows it right under add to cart if you already purchased it.

Before the update this was true 100% of the time. Since the update, most of the products that I have purchased the entire books the "you own this product" tag does appear. But not all of them. I have found at least 4 title so far that I purchased and the "you own this product" tag is missing. They still show up in my purchase history log, and I still have access to the content, so at least access wasn't lost. The Market Place is broken.
EDIT: Well at least you can still tell what you do and don’t own and what’s shared with you in the DDB app (for now).
I would like to add my dislike of the update to the marketplace redesign here. Specifically it is functionally not any better, and the removal of being able to buy specific pieces of the book was really awesome, and the bundles were awesome too.
I haven't unsubscribed yet, but if this is the route they are going they will lose me.
Also, the redesign is not functionally better...its a bad design. its not what i would call pleasant to look at and definitely disconcerting how it feels like you are on a completely different site, and just in general is awful.
I'm also very disappointed that the marketplace doesn't automatically filter (or at least have a filter I can toggle) books I already own. I relied on that a lot.
Visually, the old Marketplace was just better. The menu tabs in this new version are confusingly duplicated. Why have a "BEYOND Digital" tab that has submenus identical to the other horizontal tabs except "Dice" and "Everything Else" if every listing includes both physical and digital if available anyway? Just put the digital dice in "Everything Else" and be done with it.
It's also so much harder to tell if you're looking at a digital or physical product. Yes, I know the buttons and tags are there, but they are so easy to overlook. I'd rather have the physical items' images look like the book, not just the cover art. Like the Gift Set boxes, Wilderness Kit, and Spellbook Cards, very clearly physical. And instead of the "Beyond" tag above the listing for digital items (and no tag for physical), maybe color-coded tags that say "Digital" or "Physical"?
I agree with a lot of what has been said already. I want to add that the new marketplace UI is worse at letting me navigate what I'm looking for. I wanted to see if I should buy a source book; but between it not being as easy to see if I already own it, and the book covers taking up so much room that I have to scroll forever, I don't feel as inclined to spend money here.
Not all of the books show it. For instance, Eberron: Rising from the Last War and Acquisitions Incorporated both came as part of my Legendary Bundle. Neither book carries the tag and the system will let me purchase it with no warning label.
I had a sense of impending doom after the OGL fiasco. This seems short sighted and whatever they were attempting to do, they failed. So you have a new map feature coming out? Cool! I was looking forward to buying some of the Maps for my current campaign a la carte and giving the system a test run to see if I liked it and wanted to move that direction with my DMing. In fact I logged in last night to finally purchase the legendary bundle. I wanted to secure my discount moving forward and was looking to double down on my investment.
Well congrats Hasbro. You suck, and I will no longer be giving you my hard earned gaming dollars.
I've been running games since 1st edition and drawing character sheets on lined paper and home brewing my own content from scratch before you ever got fancy with your app.
I tolerated buying your material twice because I enjoy physical books, and your app made it easier to onboard new players at a minimal cost to me and allowed me to share my love of this game. It also gave me the ability to buy your flashy stuff my players wanted without buying a bunch of stuff I wasn't interested in.
Well, I'm out. I've already spent some of the money you were going to get on character folios for my players. I'll be taking my money to DMSguild.com and would encourage everyone else to do the same. I'll be taking all of my research and world info from the fandom wiki for Fearun. (For anyone who reads this you should definitely check it out)
I'll be taking my player base away from your platform as well.
I already own the Arkenforge mapping and VTT software, so I don't need your maps either. (Again, anyone looking for a one time purchase instead of a monthly subscription solution for mapping, it is highly recommended)
I'll be spreading my story of consumer dissatisfaction and sense of being squeezed on every platform. I'll actively discourage players and DM's alike from buying into your version of D&D.
You've overestimated your value to my game and to a hobby I love. You don't own all things D&D and you're about to learn that.
The decision to pull the plug on à la carte purchases is infuriating!
Grabbing just the subclass, feat, or monster I needed without shelling out for an entire sourcebook was the whole point! This move makes it tougher to customize campaigns without breaking the bank. And don't get me started on how this hurts newer players who just want to try a few things before diving headfirst into a pricey book.
The flexibility was a lifesaver for so many of us, and this decision just feels like a step backward. They should really rethink this and bring back the à la carte options ASAP.
I used to d&d beyond to print out sheets for my pen and paper game as I didn't want to do manual character sheets and being able to spend a few dollars to buy what I needed for my current characters was reasonable. Now I have to buy entire books that I already own to create characters. I'll be moving to a different character creator or homebrewing all my stuff from now on.
Well it didn't make sense for there to be a separate store where you could get physical and digital bundles, and one where you could get only digital. So instead of adding physical to dndbeyond, Hasbro of course said "Nah use our crappy site instead of yours. Maybe we'll save money because this infrastructure is cheaper and our silly players will buy anything."
I am considering unsubscribing because of this. Before this change, I could slowly increase my content library by adding parts of the books but I am sure that I will not buy the whole books. They are so money-hungry. Day by day I feel more obliged to change to another game system.
This is their second-worst decision since the OGL scandal...
Buying stuff from dndbeyond was convenient, instead of calculating everything from scratch. You paid some bucks to try new characters and eventually (happened to me) you were 10 USD from owning the whole book, and I was like.. ok, let's do it.
A normal player won't buy a whole manual just to try stuff. If you want to see the feats and everything you can do it for free using google. This was more about convenience more than anything else.
Now, even that I own most books physical books, I don't see why someone would buy everything just to try 1 feat.
Wanted to hop on here to say that I just unsubscribed from DnD Beyond and will be seeking other TTRPGs for my group in the future.
I've spent a lot of money on digital books through DnD Beyond because I started playing during COVID and this service made it so much easier to purchase, coordinate, and share products with my players. There have always been technical flaws and difficulties but this site definitely made things better.
I have recommended Dnd Beyond to so many players. I have told them about the content share feature. I've set up or joined campaigns, solely to share my purchased content. I've told players who are unable or unwilling to spend much that they can buy just that one subclass they want to play. This was such a great service.
But I'm done. The removal of the a la carte purchasing was the final straw. It seems like a small thing, but it is literally the defining feature of this service over competitors, imo. I homebrew my campaigns. But I loved being able to jump in to purchase new spells or monsters. Now I can't. So, what right? To me this is a huge indicator of how Hasbro sees this game and this site. By take away this little feature, they show that they have no interest in making the game accessible or have any concept of wanting to foster a good relationship with the player base. They're a business, they want to make money, fine. Was this feature losing them money? Are the people like me who used this feature going to suddenly start dropping $30-$50 on the whole book? No, I'm just not going to buy anything. I suspect a lot of people will, meaning Hasbro is probably going to loose money, as that $2-$3 I and others spent added up. They money source is gone and so is the good will I had toward DnD Beyond and DnD. It was a greedy short-sighted decision.
So I'm done. There are many other TTRPGs out there. Pathfinder, Dagger Heart, Fantasy AGE, Monster of the Week. I'm going to go check them out. I'm going to take may players with me, and will not be purchasing any new DnD products in the future.
I totally agree. If I have the physical copy why do I have to pay the digital content? But it was OK since I could only pay for what I need, but now I have to buy the whole thing just because I want one background and nothing else? This is absurd, why are you so greedy WotC????

Just throwing my 2 pence in, but this was a terrible idea.
I'm not sure I'll be continuing purchasing on d&d beyond if they're going to shift us.

Its almost as if they dont like money. Broken subclasses not fixed after 4 years of publication and now you have to buy the whole damn book twice? ffs
Let's throw down
The Hasbro hammer has fallen.

Changes like this make we consider other TTRPG's

Wow, the new May '24 Marketplace interface is... GARBAGE!
Why isn't what we own marked anymore? Are you joking?
Why do the pages constantly reload and skip? Who programmed this, grade school kids?
Stop destroying the extremely-long-time goodwill of D&D players and DDB users. Revolting.
Word of mouth got this hobby to its peak - it can easily be its downfall. Do right by us. Stop screwing it up.

It literally came looking for this thread to say exactly this. I just unsubscribed and told them in 400 words why I was leaving.
