I was happy to get an email from D&D Beyond about free gifts through December 16 for the "12 Days of D&D" promotion, but a little confused as to why when I tried to check out, the web site is asking for my credit card info. How to get the promised free gifts without a credit card?
yeah its a digital product so you don't need my address and its free so you don't need CC information. make it like the subscriber gear and just attribute to the account with a "claim now" button.
I sent them a "hey what's up with this' email. I haven't heard back, I think it's BS (and possibly illegal?) to require this information for something that is promoted as "free"
I just don't like that it's only in the US. I'm in Canada and I can't even receive the "FREE GIFT", because it says it's only: Holiday delivery (contiguous US only). But it's a Digital purchase why do I need to be in the US for digital content.
It is very disappointing to be deceptively offered "free" items and then require address, phone number, and credit card information for (again) a "free" item.
My personal information is more valuable to me.
Hopefully, D&D Beyond will do the right thing and offer free items without any strings attached."
more than likely they are required to still track who orders the free items. they must likely also have software running to make sure you dont like hack or fake getting items. i bet they do a check every so often on every account verify each item as to how it ended up in that account.

Maybe, but in the past they've done that just fine without needing people's credit card info.

100% agree. There is no need for my phone number, address and credit card for a free gift.
You already have enough of my info Hasbro. Either make the free gifts free to claim like previous years, or take a hike. Such a scam
last year there was just Claim button for free items. now you literally need to BUY free item. this is just BS.

whats really interesting is if you put in a card with a typo or something it will deny you the freebies and say the cards invalid
This has to be illegal.
I feel like these people are just screwing up left and right.

afterwards i recheked the emails and they send another one where you have to redeem with their Keys they emailed.
"Free" is a very subjective term here
