I love the Encounter Builder tool for 2014 but having to put encounters into Maps in order to see the difficulty for 2024 is very clunky and frankly annoying. Are there any plans to update the Encounter builder for 2024 so we aren't required to go into maps to check the difficulty? As of right now I just do it manually because I don't use the Maps feature on D&DB I use Foundry.
I know its just a change in the multiplier xp and overall difficulty calculation its a small thing for me just curious!
Agreed, the mandatory shift to maps is horrendous! The Encounter Builder was way more useful and intuitive, especially if you play in person and don't need virtual maps.
I don't mind using a VTT on my tablet when I play in person, it's decent as a reference map for the game mat. However, maps didn't run great on my tablet and it crashed several times during our session. Encounters would've been so much easier to run.
I mean, it seems obvious that the Beyond team cares most about Maps and Project Sigil, but Encounters is a good and simple tool! Maybe kobold fight club will use the new rules, sigh.
Encounters really need to be updated. I sub just for the encounters and initiative tracker. It is clunky and out dated. I don't want online maps. I still have encounters that have glitched and won't delete. Filtering content that I own and don't own is a pain and getting worse. Not to mention the CR things going on right now. It is completely unsupported on the app. Please please please make this feature better.
I run most of my gaming session prep and sessions on a older laptop. I was not even able to collect my Gold Dragon mini since the specs for the VTT are too high for my system. This is going to get ridiculous and force me to migrate over to other website based tools if I'm unable to even apply the 2024 rules to build and encounter, or I'll have to rewrite the monsters as 'homebrew' just to get them in session.
Good to see that I am not the only one that is having some type of issue with the 8 year old beta Encounter system.
Firstly if you use your DMG to get the XP breakpoints, all the info you need is there on the Encounter Builder. It would be nice to get it updated, but it does work well enough.
Secondly, even the D&D MAPS VTT is BROKEN when it comes to calculating difficulty. It's using the maximum as a minimum. (See this thread) So they can't even get it working where it's supposed to work.

If you're talking about Project Sigil, it's been effectively canned. The D&D Maps tool shouldn't be that bad for even older laptops. I've got a 5 year old PC, and I could build a map with 300 rats, so I don't know that the requirements are that stringent for https://dndbeyond.com/games

Yeah I know its all in the DMG, and in the encounter builder. But like you and I both said it would be nice to have it updated to the most recent edition.
Thats funny that its broken in maps, I had no idea. I haven't been using maps as I mostly use Foundry but that is pretty comical. Thanks for the reply!
Honestly since I posted this I am thinking of moving away from D&D altogether so its less of a concern for me now. I am sure they will get it updated eventually.

Hello,

Thanks!
2nd. I wish they would just have an option on Encounters to use the 2014 or 2024 rules.
It's something I want as well.

So weird to force us into using a VTT when a lot of people play over a table. This really needs to be updated.
Also, we're paying for a subscription of tools that are in alpha/beta for years. How can a combat/initiative tracker be a WIP for so long?

So two points.
