Hello friends! Long time player here. Currently our session uses Roll20 for a VTT. I am the DM and the single most important aspect of the Roll20 VTT is the ability to have a view different than the players. Is there ever going to be a DM map overlay for the D&D Beyond VTT?
I'm not using D&D Beyond's Virtual Tabletop (VTT) primarily because it lacks a dedicated DM-only map view. As a Dungeon Master, having the ability to manage hidden areas, control fog of war, and prepare encounters without revealing everything to the players is essential for maintaining suspense and narrative control. Without this feature, the experience feels limited and less immersive for both the DM and the players.
I WANT to use the Maps VTT, i really do. It would solve a lot of problems. But i just can't at the moment.
Before you Start Session you can set your tokens - if you click a token using the Select tool you can choose "Hide". The Fog of War tool lets you draw the Fog of War.
After starting session the players will not see any hidden tokens and will not see anything hidden by fog of war. You can choose "spectator view" at bottom to open a new tab and see what a player sees to test this out yourself.
If you need to you can Pause a session to hide any adjustments you make want to make. Unpausing resumes session.
Click a token and choose Reveal to reveal it to players.

The standard view is what Roll20 considers the DM View. As Cyb3rM1nd said, the Spectator View is what everyone else sees, whether they connect through their own device/account, or if you project the Spectator View on a TV or display (which is how I run the Map for in person groups).

You can do all this already.
