I have been a long-time user of D&D Beyond and was very supportive of the team since discovering it in 2019.
Throughout those years, I have been impressed with the speed at which content and features got released on this website and also how close they were to Wizards of the Coast to deliver partnered content.
Hasbro's acquisition of D&D Beyond got me intrigued and cautiously optimistic at the potential of the website, like how easy content delivery could be and also how it would become the ultimate platform for D&D.
However, while the content delivery at least came on time for us to read through newly released books, other features I am noticing are pretty lackluster and leaves so much to be desired. When character creator features get added, they are bugged or straight up dont work. Feats can't be added to characters, spells don't show up, and subclasses get features that dont show up anywhere on the character sheet or show up completely bugged.
Many of these issues is better fixed by having the Beyond users just merely use the websites own homebrew system to create feats, spells, and subclasses that actually work and do it way quicker than the site developers. This was prominent with the release of the 2024 core rule books, the Forgotten Realms books, and the Forge of the Artificer releases. And this is only looking at their own official content.
The D&D Beyond marketplace is also completely misleading users into buying content that is being alleged as content that works for 2024 classes... only to find out that it doesn't (I'm looking at you Obojima and Critical Role).
Sigil 3D VTT was also a complete mess and a complete failure. It seemed so exciting when they revealed it before the launch of the new core rulebooks, but the announcement of its abandonment made me question what else could be in the pipeline that we would never see the light of day. WotC said that the three pillars of D&D in the future was its new Core rulebooks, D&D Beyond, and Sigil. Well... that's now one of those three pillars that have completely crumbled.
Then we get to Maps VTT. Dont get me wrong. It is a fine addition to the site. Its not nearly at the level of intuitiveness and feature-richness as other competing VTTs, but it mostly gets the job done. And yet we see so many features that were promised in 2025 that are pushed back into 2026 with the exception of one feature. Art Reveals was a feature that was supposed to show up today, which is the day I would have had my session with my table. I was deeply dissappointed to see that it was not ready once I wanted to see what it was all about.
Today was really it for me. I keep getting disappointed in not only D&D Content in 2025 (See Heroes of Faerun, where they give you the Banneret Fighter and Genie Paladin side-by-side and WotC will still tell you with a straight face that their classes are balanced), but also in the platform where I receive the D&D content. I am deeply worried for Beyond's future.
Please dont bother replying to this message stating "Dont worry, they will eventually deliver" or "The developers are hard at work, give them time". I pay for a service, and I expect some honest about the delivery. If they are understaffed, then fine. But I would much rather have them keep the content and features they are cooking in the oven before they are released and also be honest with us on when they will be released.
I think it's also worth noting that while delays happen, it's pretty telling that a date announced just one week ago is already being pushed back. What does it say about a company's planning if they can't give accurate news for even one week into the future?
I'm generally pretty happy with Beyond. I do get your point, though. I am also very confused by the delay of something that was announced a week ago. Why announce it? Nobody asked you to announce it, but now that I had a date, I was also really excited about it. Another disappointing thing today was me buying the Tales from the Yawning portal, A) to eventually have handouts for my game tomorrow and B) to have the maps already in the VTT, only to realise that A) the handout function was taken off again and B) there are no maps prepared. Truly a bummer and a waste of my money. I do believe if the developers say, that they want to reach out more often and see what's going on, since this is a process though, we might be up for a bumpy ride for a while.

OK, imma stop you on one of your points.
Obojima spells, backstories & a lot more are compatible. Just not the subclasses. So that isn't as true as you make it out to be. Beyond DOES need to get the 2024 subclass update implemented(For free, I might add...charging would be obnoxious since Avantris Entertainment gave 2014 & 2024, & it took Beyond a lot of "reminders" to get them to implement 2014) instead of having forums users play hype tennis with Obojima(& other) devs to gauge interest.
CritRole isn't just subclasses either. This is also dishonest framing. & unlike Obojima, Darrington Press has ZERO desire to release 2024 subclass updates due to their commitment to Daggerheart development & issues with Hasbro's policies from the OGL debacle.

Ah yes... Darrington Press whose new owners (Perkins and Crawford) convinced the CR team that using 2024 rules for their newest campaign was the best thing to do. They are now playing C4 with 2024 rules and have just announced an uptick in viewership and new subscribers since it started. Perkins and Crawford are also publicly known to be creating 2024 homebrew for the new campaign as well. So.... it sure doesn't sound like they have any issue with 2024 or working with Hasbro.
