In the AC box on character sheets, a Monk's unarmored defense will be displayed even if a character has armor equipped if the unarmored defense is higher than the AC with armor. Additionally, shields add to the unarmored defense bonus although they're not supposed to.
The monk unarmored defence is programed the same as the barbarian's, so it doesn't check for shield.
As for armor, it just uses the highest AC calculation as a shortcut. Monks should never wear armor anyway, they don't have proficiency (which is often worse than being unarmored) and it turns off almost all their features.
It just so happens that I have a reason for my character to be wearing armor, so that's not an issue. The thing is that when I do wear armor, the number that the character sheet displays is inaccurate. It's still a bug, whether or not it is "optimal" for this thing to be done.
Something that can circumvent this, go to your character, click on the armor class shield, click “Customize” and you’ll see options to change your armor class. Put in your new armor class, maybe put in a note so you don’t forget why you have it on there.
