So i was just building a character for a campaign and a thought occured to me. It would be nice be able to have a buy / sell buttons on inventory management in addition to the add and remove buttons. The basic idea being that when you use buy/sell it removes/adds the proper amount of gold from your character sheet. Just a thought figured i would share.
You are not the first or even top 5 (maybe not even top 10, but I'm not counting) person to think of and suggest that.
It has 3 flaws.
Most (and I do mean more than half) DMs adjust the price of items according to economy or allow bartering.
Method of payment. If a PC has 1pp, 24gp, and 15sp and they buy 1 item that costs 25gp which coins get removed?
Change. If a PC only has gold (let's say 10gp) and no silver, but wants to buy something that costs 5 silver, what coins do they have after? There is also the occasional issue of buyers having limited amounts of cash (this is usually hand waved, but could be used in a realistic campaign).
At the end of the day, a simple buy/sell button would only be fully utilized by a minority of players/DMs.
I suggest a more robust coin management system that can add and subtract coins in a single transaction (2 rows) that is accessible side by side with manage equipment and maybe even acts as a sort of shopping cart with the ability to add multiple items to it (prices displayed) and they get added to inventory when you complete transaction (adding and removing coins in the same button press).
After all, there is more to it than adding and subtracting fixed values from a single number. It is adding and subtracting approximate values from 5 numbers (complexity of automation increases exponentially as number of variables increase. It is at least 16× easier said than done with the most conservative estimates).

Electrum, the answer is always electrum (At least if you are a gnome male druid with a fixation on having everything in electrum).
Yes, Electum is always the answer. we should all be using it as our base currency.
