What about players that need access to those stats for summoning, and polymorph/wildshape? Locking that info away could impact them having those stats at their fingertips to speed up their actions during play. Truthfully metagamers are gonna metagame. I don't know if it's worth the devs time to segregate the creatures that players may need to have access to for those purposes vs the ones they should never need to see more than what it looks like.
RAsplundJr, that is exactly why Irianne's solution is elegant. We know that if players want to ruin the game for themselves, they will. Making an easy-to-bypass thingy, like a checkbox labeled GM View will allow players, who have to have monster stats to get them, while (hopefully) discouraging those who do not need them from looking them up.
Of course you need to have the "meta gaming is a Bad Thing(tm)" talk at the start and maybe also at some point(s) during the game - especially for new players.
Doesn't it, when all is said and done, come down to trust within the group?
I personally think it would be nice to be able to toggle what is shown when you load a page. Being able to reveal information as the players discover it would be a nice mechanic.
