I'm looking to make Vash The Stampede from the anime/manga series Trigun. II realize he's a level 20 character from the start of the show and holds back sometimes, but I'm hoping to build to that. I'm curious as to what build you would use. I would assume Gunslinger would be there somewhere, but please give me your thoughts!
Ironically, I'd probably build him as a high level drunken master monk with the Gunner feat out of Tasha's. The high level drunken master stuff fits his silly levels of luck/skill redirecting attacks, gunner gives him proficiency with pistols.
Since he is almost always using the same weapon it would both thematically and RAW(after getting the gunner feat) work for the optional rule dedicated weapon (may not need the damage boost but counting the gun as a monk weapon allows class features to function)
I would lean toward aasimar thematically, alternately the Custom Lineage option would allow you to take Gunner at lvl 1.
I say go Monk, way of the Kensei for 15 levels (gaining timeless body, as well as many of Vash's weird ways of dodging). D&DB won't let you use a firearm as your Kensei weapon, but most DM's should, especially if you take the Gunner feat.
Then take Sharpshooter and bump up your dexterity as much as possible.
For your last five levels, I say go Sorcerer specifically for Fireball. Seeking Spell and Empowered Spell for your metamagic... then try to flavour your spells around his prosthetic gun.
That's my Humanoid Typhoon (who I designed as an Air Genasi because puns).
I was trying to think of ways to flavor his prosthetic gun, as that was something I wanted to incorporate, but magic definitely works. Also, puns are fun, especially with this character lol

My idea for this goes into home brew territory, But there is the common magic item prosthetic arm. A dm that is on board with the idea could make a gun version of the Armblade (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/armblade) magic weapon that requires a prosthetic limb (usually requires a warforged but as i said, this is already homebrew idea)
So the Angel Gun is the relatively difficult part.
In the Anime the Revolver he carries has a special component that awakens his Latent "Plant" powers.
In D&D however, I would use the Prosthetic Arm paired to a Magic Revolver. With both the "attuned creature" could transmute the arm into an Anti-Matter Rifle once per day (or week, idk).
Though it's not true to the anime because Vash's prosthetic arm isn't a part of the Angel Gun and the Blast from that Gun would be way more than 6d8 damage, I like this solution

You know what, that makes a lot of sense! Thank you so much!

could also theme it off of Wand Sheath (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/wand-sheath) depending on which prosthetic gun you are referring to.
