Hello, I'm a new DM and I'm wondering how I can make maps without spending a lot of money. I haven't found any good grids online, so can anyone help me?
You could always repurpose maps from other adventures. Your players in all likelihood won't know any better. The DMG has several maps in the appendices too if you haven't checked those out.
Dungeondraft, Dungeonfog, and Inkarnate are options I've seen discussed for making your own maps, but I'm not sure how affordable they are.
I know at least Dungeonfog has a free, or at least trial version (I want to say they have a similar tier pricing system to WorldAnvil with whom they seem to partner along with a few other system agnostic online play aid accessory producers), they got a lot of tutorials on line as well.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
There are also tutorials for using GIMP(free photoshop) for making maps. I am pretty happy with DungeonDraft and Inkarnate but if you know any graphic design that may be a good option.
Inkarnate is what I use, it has a large and growing community who make a whole host of maps freely available for anyone else to use, or clone and edit and tweak.
Some good suggestions above. I’ve used GIMP for my maps. But it’s a longer process then some of the others. Depending on how much you want to get into map making you can check out The Cartographer’s Guild it’s been a while since I’ve been there but you can get advice and tons of inspiration from there

Why is there a hunger system in this game?
