Both goblins and hob goblins now have fey ancestry, Kenku no longer have the limited speech thing, Minotaurs now have a trait referencing the minotaur of myth, Yuan-Ti are no longer purebloods and now have resistance to poison instead of immunity, Aarakocra now have a flight speed equal to their walking speed. The lizard folks cunning artisan has been replaced with natures intuition which grants proficiency with two of the following animal handling, medicine, nature, perception, stealth, or survival. Sea elf's now have resistance to cold damage. Tabaxi now have a climb speed equal to their walking speed.

I can understand most of those changes, but no clue why they felt the need to nerf sea elves. Who plays sea elves? When these are 'player leaks' though they could just be wild speculation.
Sorry that was supposed to say sea elves now have resistance to cold damage

If I can't say something nice, I try to not say anything at all. So if I suddenly stop participating in a topic that's probably why.
The "leaks" aren't really leaks of the rumor variety, they're based off screenshots of the pages from the book. Nerd Immersion the presenter is likely going to have an advance copy of the book in a week or so. Nerd Immersion as a source tends to be pretty credible, I don't know if I 100% agree of some of his attitude toward WotC but when he's talking mechanical changes with a screenshot of a page, we're more in the fact space than the rumor space.

If it is just faked images from the book, it is a pretty well done fake.
I may be in the minority, but I am glad the Kenku don't have the speech issues any more. It was purely a RP thing that was far more trouble than it was worth.
Hmm random thought. If they're removing cunning artisan from lizardfolk. It's not like a proficiency. It's just gone with no way to take that ability even if you want it anymore.
Would it work as a feat which anyone could take?
On the one hand I really like this ability and am sad it was removed, but on the other hand it does seem like something that could be achieved with a tool proficiency.

Canto alla vita alla sua bellezza ad ogni sua ferita ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!

Nah, I think that's the popular opinion. Obviously you hear more about the bad times than the good, but golly I've heard so much more bad than good about people playing kenku at the table. I always thought it sounded amusing to try, but evidence seems to suggest that it was annoying.
Although it was so iconic that I do wonder what's really left if you remove it.
The other thing that annoys me about the new trend for races is how scant the write ups are. Th three most recent races, Owlin, Herengone, and Fairy are all so… barren. There are next to no cultural entries for them and not even name suggestions. Bubkes. (Less than bubkes actually, since there isn’t even a 🐐💩 there.) WotC is making them so neutral that they’re generic and bland. Owlin are owl people, that’s basically all it says. Herengone are bunny people, that’s basically all it says. 🥱😴😪😮💨😪😮💨🤤
A lack of lore has been one of my main problems with 5th when I started playing again. (The other two being an over simplified but opaque skill system and making Wizards and Sorcs CC and/or support casters.)
And wow, the book hasn't dropped yet, and we are having this discussion yet again. My main concern at the moment is more when will it be available as a standalone and digital product. Because no one in my group of players/dm's is paying that amount to buy content they already have.

Well, they are still a flightless crow person, which is has its own appeal and RP opportunities that don't require you to be a voice actor to really pull off well.

I am a fan of minimal baked in Lore in the PHB or Source Book, but I would really expect to see that lore in a good Campaign Guide.

Leave it to the setting books to go in depth for sure, possibly overwriting some info from a core book altogether, but I'd prefer to see a few things at least to help catch a player's interest and make races more than a plain burlap sack with some numbers in it.
edit: you know what, I think it'd actually be a good step if WotC actually came out and made the Realms (or another setting) the official default and added some more setting-specific stuff to the race writeups in the core books, with a caveat that that info is meant for the default setting specifically and can/will differ in other settings. That'd free them up to really work up some better stuff for setting books and it'd reinforce the idea that everything can be changed by DMs anyway. The only real issue with it that I can see is adventure modules; if they're explicitly set in another official setting, that'd be a potential problem.

Agreed, though I find the art tends to have more impact on what my players like than the lore provided in the books.

Same here. Honestly, I just only really play in or DM homebrew, and re-write the lore from published sources to the point of just skipping over it entirely when it comes to reading. But I do understand that’s a minority viewpoint. Maybe some suggested lore like: If you are playing in the default setting on the FR, dwarves act like this, but that may change based on the world you and your party create. Similar to what people are saying with ASIs, a line about suggested culture, without a mandate.

I agree with this and suggest that they put a little blurb about the cultures of each of the races but for multiple settings. "Dwarves in the Forgotten Realms are commonly.... While Dwarves in Eberron are generally...." Give examples while removing any expectations of the races having the same culture in every world.

This is the only thing I want. Not a game wide but setting specific lore blurb. Of course this leaves the problem of the new races that don't have anything and look more and more like a cosmetic DLC you can buy for some computer games.

The new Trance Ability update is pretty cool!!!

Aasimar Subraces are gone and replaced with a singular ability gained at 3rd level.
Edit: And can be Medium or Small like the Genasi

Please say that's happening right? The aasimar subraces are crazy thematic and impactful, and losing them would be awful.
The thematic subrace ability is the one chosen at 3rd level.
She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Indeed. It's pretty much the same as it is now aside from the ASI thing and the ASI thing was happening anyway.
