Add another for the count on a canid race! Every time I tell someone I wanna play a wolf person they just tell me to play a shifter and I hate being stuck with the bottom of the 99 cent store bargain bin!
Since i hope for more MtG setting support in the future of 5e, this races i hope to see:
from Kamigawa - Kitsune - Nezumi (ratfolk) - Akki (a blend between a goblin and a kappa) - Moonfolk - Orochi (real serpentfolk, not those wannabe serpent yuan-ti)
from Tarkir - Ainok (dog people)
from Kaladesh - Aetherborn (living magical energy)
from Amonkhet - Falcon-Aven - Ibis-Aven - Khenra (Jackalfolk)

With the collabs between MTG and D&D in the Plane Shift materials and the new MTG books (Strixhaven, Ravnica, Theros), it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to make some more materials for these! My guess is that if WotC does do something like this, maybe it'll be like the Van Richten's Guide where they have a general overview of the different worlds and important parts of them. Enough info to make good campaigns, and enough room left in the book to add stuff like races, rules for the five-color system and planeswalking!

Yeah, it sure would be nice to get the Nezumi in D&D.

If we get another MTG-inspired book; the Kitsune of Kamigawa would be awesome.
Kamigawa would be my guess for the next Magic sourcebook - and Wizards has been pretty clear that the Magic sourcebooks sell like hotcakes, so we can reasonably expect they’ll continue to make them. Kamigawa is very different than the planes we have already seen (frankly, Wizards needs more non-European sourcebooks), has a number of potential new playable races, and Kamigawa’s most recent set was the best-selling winter Magic set for its release window of all time.
I’d personally rather see classic Kamigawa than Neon Dynasty era, but I think that’s too much to hope for.
Zendikar and Amonkhet are the other planes I would put as the other likely candidates for a sourcebook (I think Innistrad is too close to Ravenlodft to be a serious contender). Looking at the races, Zendikar would provide Kor, but little else that does not already exist. New races Amonkhet provides include Aven (though, let’s be honest, we probably don’t need a fourth birdfolk race), khenra (jackal folk), and Naga (snake folk, but in a different way than yuan-ti).
They could, of course, do any number of other planes, but I think those three have the best mix of popularity, new race and class potential, and recently released sets to make them viable sourcebooks.
If Wizards does make an Amonkhet book then it gives them an opportunity to capitalize on the four Cleric domains they made in Plane Shift: Amonkhet- Solidarity, Zeal, Ambition, and Strength. And although I do feel like the setting was kind of put to rest after Hour of Devastation's storyline, I do agree it provides some ideas. After all, Bolas found the plane and subjugated it. What if a few survivors of the Hours managed to escape and maybe try to rebuild the old kingdoms?
Also. WotC. Give. Me. A. Bolas. Stat block. I am begging of you Hasbro

The lore specifically states that there are survivors, and that Hezoret is protecting them in the desert. Still, I would expect they would set the book before the fall, giving all the gods their own stat blocks (including the old gods in the desert). I’d also argue Bolas is one of the worst conceptualised characters in a game where he has to compete against Gideon for the title, but that’s nor really a discussion for this thread’s topic.

Circling back to the thread, I think it would be kind of neat to see more “evil” races added as player character options. Some lesser breed of star spawn or Illithid (just like we got damphirs, which are lesser vampires) or the like. With the current trend away from having official fixed alignments and Wizards effectively telling all those DMs who forced their own views on alignments on their players to be more flexible, I think there’s some room to branch out into weird races previously relegated to the Monster Manual.

Agreed! The separation of alignment from stats leaves a lot of room for new opportunities, and there are quite a few SRD monsters that could make good player characters. Hell, aarakocra were originally monsters and they got official stats in Explorer's Guide to WIldemount, who's to say that WotC couldn't do the same for bullywugs or gnolls, or even ogres and the like?
If you're anything like me, you probably love races. Like, love races. Having all these cool little civilizations to sprinkle in your world like that one meme of the guy salting a steak is extremely fun, but even with the 40+ official races WotC currently has, there are still a few places where they just kind of... lack.
So I'll ask but a copper for your thoughts! What sort of official races and stuff might be nice to have for 5e?

Yessss, give us bullywugs! Or grungs! The Wild Beyond the Witchlight proved the former is smart enough to learn sword-fighting and such, why not make them a race?

Aarakocra were given stats in the Elemental Evil's Player's Companion. They've been a playable race for the entire run of 5E.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

YES! Who needs Tiamat to TPK your players when you've got Nicol Bolas.
Being serious though, getting a Bolas stat block would be kinda awesome.

Creature race/class combo. The isolation to Humanoids is entirely redundant, and magical worlds naturally have a variety of sapient creatures.
