Swap your Int bonus for Str bonus for practicality, dump the hand crossbow until you get crossbow expert, dump 5 rations and 5 torches if you still need to lose weight... and if your coin weight is turned on, compress your coin. Also, Studded Leather is cheap AF.
You have a 10 strength. The average person isn't going to be running 6 minute miles or polevaulting over chasms with a 50lb pack on their back. Oh and by the way your backpack is overloaded. You can only carry 30lbs in a backpack. Put the rope and waterskin on the outside, and have 30lbs inside. And where is you bedroll or blankets? You are going to freeze at night. Also you have no clothes or shoes. Your character is walking around barefooted and stark naked.
Wait... he is!?! Hahaha! Where do I see/sort all that?
Fair point on the first comment too.
I guess it's more realistic than I first thought.
I am new too DnD & to DnD Beyond, so am not too sure of thngs.
I chose to bring a dungeoners backpack... not realizing there was no bed roll in it. So you are saying I should choose the explorers pack instead then?
Also, on that part of the character sheet, it says starting equipment or gold.
That means I either pick starting EQ, or take gold instead, right?
What do you suggest?
I will be starting level 3, so will have goodberry, making rations obsolete
Also, how do I put things on the outside of the backpack? Is that a joke, or is it actually possible?
Haha yeah we can't see that, but I would definitely go through it again. You should get clothes in your starting equipment from your background. Goodberry provides nourishment only, doesn't make you feel full. Imagine how much your stomach would rumble after a day spent hiking, climbing, swimming and fighting but only eating a couple of berries... As for gold or kit - that will depend on what your dm allows but as a ranger I would take the kit, you would need a lucky roll to get a longbow, weapons and armour etc. Everything else will vary - some dm's just gloss over travel so it won't matter but other dm's make it a big part of the story so yeah then your equipment matters. Games like that you might even want a tent and stuff. cheap and light include candles, string, whistle, chalk and soap. They are always useful. bags of marbles and caltrops to but they are heavier.

There's really no need to change your ability scores. 5e is very forgiving. Build whatever suits your idea of the character, and you might have to try a little harder but you'll be fine.

There's a direct correlation between his strength and his ability to carry the equipment he wants. That's the direct solution for the problem stated.
