So, how would you homebrew some animated armor as armor?
My paladin is going to get a few pets in the form of a living suit of armor, shield, and two flying swords. (Several of my other players have pets)
Mechanically I think it'll actually just remove most penalties to plate armor. No strength requirement, you can don and doff it as a bonus action, it doesn't provide disadvantage on stealth checks, and it lets you add your full dexterity modifier (+0 in their case). It would also give the wearer proficiency in the armor. How would you handle animated armor?
As for the weapons, I think they'll actually be able to combine and become any weapon. They'd add proficiency since they help, and possibly even a related fighting style.
If it's actually a creature, the Paladin won't be AC 18 - assuming they're naked inside the suit, they'll be AC 10 + Dexterity, in presumably 3/4 cover, so 15 + Dexterity (and with +5 to Dex saves). Naturally, they also really need to worry about the statblock of the armor, since it can and will die in combat, as it's a separately targetable creature.
Mechanically, I think the best way to handle the pet otherwise is via find steed/find greater steed's mechanics, so you have rules ready to go for things like controlling it.
