Basically what it says. There are spells and class abilities that clearly lean more heavily towards utility, roleplay, or combat than others. Players and DMs can come up with some crazy uses for non-combat spells/abilities in combat situations or vica versa. What's been some of your favorite examples of this?
I'll start with my favorite: Hex on my face character. I know a lot of people consider Hex a trap spell and only take it for the damage boost, but being able to use it in social situations is absolutely incredible and I have a lot of fun with it. Hex a prisoner's wisdom so they have lower insight during an interrogation, hex a king's charisma before they need to make a big speech, hex an guard's wisdom from range to lower their perception if you need to stealth by, etc. It's such a great face skill when you have an idea of what types of contested social checks you're probably going to make. It's even better if you take a few levels in sorcerer or even get Metamagic Adept and take Subtle Spell so there's no real indicator of you casting it.
Similarly, when did a player or a DM in one of your games end up using a combat spell for a roleplay/utility use that you didn't expect?
My best story to date was using a combination of dream and the glamour bard's class feature which replicates command to whisper sweet nothings into the ear of a skittering horror until it fell asleep and the party could escape.
