All, the rogue assassin gets the assassinate feature at 3rd level, which says, "Assassinate - Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you get the drop on your enemies. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet. In addition, any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit."
Does this display anywhere on the character sheet in D&D Beyond? One of my players is a rogue assassin and I don't think he is using this capability, probably because he was unaware of it.
It should be under Features & Traits, yes. It's one of the tabs in the box immediately beneath the hit points portion of the page (on PC) or one of the menu options in the button on the right-hand side of the screen (on mobile).
Woah, a thread on the first page not about that other topic. Refreshing.
I had to search 4 pages deep to find one, and I felt it deserved a response.
I also can't access my own rogue's character sheet to check if I gave accurate directions to OP, so if I'm mistaken, someone please correct me.
You did give me good advice, thanks! There it was. Just wish it showed up on attack rolls or something like that. Just one of those things you have to remember.
You can click on the red Beyond 20 square (you may need to install the Beyond 20 browser extension) at the top of the character sheet (4 squares for Beyond 20, Share, Short Rest, Long Rest). Beyond 20 will let you set up macro keys for special conditions when you make your rolls... such as auto-calculating the sneak attack dice, enabling extra "to hit" dice like with the Bless spell, etc. Since these things are not active all of the time, you can set up hotkeys to activate them when appropriate (press the keys when you click on the appropriate to hit roll or saving throw, etc). There is another one already set up for assassin critical hit "on the next roll." But I would rather use the drop down menu to select the advantage roll and auto-critical, and then have the macro calculate the correct number of dice to roll and add your bonuses.
I'm new to the VTT and setting up macros, so I have just been playing around with the settings. One thing that I have noticed is that you can only select 2 macro keys at a time, so if you have more than 2 conditions, you may need to set up macros for specific combinations of conditions, and make a note of which key does which set of conditions.
Even though it does sound daunting, it is actually pretty easy to set up and use, once you get the hang of it. Since Beyond 20 is the extension that allows you to use your D&D Beyond Character sheet when playing on Roll 20 (and perhaps other VTTs as well) you will likely need to install the extension before you can actually roll on your character sheet and have the results show up in the VTT chat. It was only later that I found out that it has the macros that you can set up as well. I hope this helps.
Once you have the macros set up, you can still play around with rolling the dice on your character sheet without being connected to a VTT... you may need to play around and make adjustments to get the right combinations set up. Don't do this while you are connected to the VTT... you can't erase all of the rolls that it will send to the group chat. O.o Yeah, I did that... LoL.

Yeah the reason it doesn't show up there because the character sheet doesn't know if the Rogue is going first. So it's not really an attack - it's the trait of an attack.
It's like some Feats - there's some that say "Let's you re-roll 1s and 2s on damage rolls, your must take whatever you roll next" - it's something you will need to remember.
A rogue with a high dexterity, will probably start to remember - because chances are they may be going first on initiative (or at least before the enemy), and knowing that can do some heavy damage if they do - is something players will begin to remember! Because they're gonna be waiting to see if they're before the enemy! :D

Speaking of that other topic... why can't you get the ebooks when you purchase the physical books?

I don't use the Beyond 20 / Roll 20, but I am going to have to look into it. Thanks!
Beyond20, if you use Discord, especially - it so amazingly wonderful.
It remembers everything for you.
So for example, if you're a halfling and you roll a 1 on a d20 - it automatically rolls it for you, because of Halfling luck.
Takes out so much of the needing to remember things like that.
And you just hold SHIFT to roll with Advantage, CONTROL for Disadvantage.
You can make hot keys that have custom phrases.
So every time you heal, Discord will roll the heal and say, "The Power of My Gods Seal Your Wounds!" as the description.
It was a literal game change when the pandemic hit for my group who was using Avrae trying to remember bot commands.

We play in person, which I greatly prefer. Gives us more time to socialize which is very important (to my group, but me not so much).
