I was surprised not to see this question on the FAQ, it seems otherwise pretty exhaustive. With all the other subscription benefits, it's pretty clear what happens if you decide not to continue subscribing. But what happens if you have more than 6 characters? Do some get deleted? Do you lose access to all but 6 (of your choice) but can reactivate to get the others back later? Do you still have access to all of them, but you are prevented from creating new ones until you get back under 6?
There's a weird quirk in dropping a sub where if you don't choose any characters before accepting the lockout, then you end up with 6 free character slots for more characters. I had 52 characters before I let my sub expire. I only chose one to access before choosing the lockout, giving me 5 free slots. So it says I have 58/6 characters :D

That's great news. I primarily DM, and would love to create NPCs here. I'm happy to buy a bunch of content and spend the $6/mo to share it all, but I don't want to keep paying when we take breaks between campaigns, nor do I want to lose my NPCs. This way they can get locked away while we're taking breaks (or someone else is DMing) and I can start my subscription back up when it's time to start the next campaign.

Basically you get to pick six and lose access to the others. They don't get deleted or anything, you just can't access them until you re-subscribe.
