My name is Tobes, and I'm new here. I have just started my pay subscription and am setting up a campaign for some characters.
Since most everyone is relatively new/inexperienced that I'm adventuring with, I would prefer to have the new characters ONLY use the Player's Handbook for character creation. The reasoning is, that there is enough content in the PHB, and I'd like to keep it a little more basic for now. I have access to TCoE, XGTE, SwordCoast, and more.
How do I turn the other books off temporarily - or at least for character creation (Race, Class, Spells, options, etc.)
I'm sorry if this has been discussed previously. I haven't had time to search through all of the posts in here.
This is an easy enough fix in DnD Beyond. All you have to do is go into your campaign tab like you would normally. Once you are in your campaign page you should see something in the upper left hand corner that says Content Management. From there you can choose what books you give your players access to for their resources. The only other thing I can think of is make sure that you have the Dungeon Master subscription to be able to share the content. I hope this helps.
That doesn't work. The content management is to prevent your players from, for instance, reading the adventure, but it still gives access to everything in the character builder.
There is no way to exclude anyone's books from the character builder. Once content sharing is on, it shares everything everyone in the game has.
Some stuff, such as Dragonlance and Eberron, can be excluded by the player turning it off on the first page of the character builder, but Xanathar's and Tasha's are not excludable that way.
Ive had instances where Ive bought a new book (after had already allowed sharing in the campaign), and would have to actively click that book to be shared within the content management panel. One of my players had to ask and make sure I enabled that book because the races and certain subclasses they were looking for were not available. All you should have to do is uncheck that book you want to take away from the group.
Thanks for the reply, and I agree that it should be easy like you've said. I'll bet that jl8e is right though.
You will have to do it manually. Tell your players that you want to use PHB only (BTW, a very wise move), and then you will have to manually check each player's PC build before the game starts, as players make "mistakes", and will select subclasses/spells/features from other books, even though you have told them your wishes.
