So, in short, I’m a fairly new DM but have been playing for 10 years and making spells/magic items in our games for years. I’m currently running a mix of Mines of Phandelver, Dragon of Icespire Peak, and Sunless Citadel as a singular campaign before branching out into a more homebrew campaign from there.
One of my players is playing a Hexblade Warlock obsessed with Dragons (given them being a Kobold) with a focus on Polearms. They wanted a custom polearm patron which I have no problem with and have already formed the baseline for an idea for it.
I don’t need help with the final product, but figuring out some bonuses he should get for the pieces of his Hexblade. His patron is a Fractured Hexblade that will eventually be made whole by him forging a Bone from each Chromatic Dragon Type into a singular weapon and performing a ritual. He’ll have a good start with Venomfang and Cryovain (if the party kills them) and it can get more difficult from there. I’m also being a bit more generous magic item wise than base Phandelver allows so I’m not leaving the other players out.
What I’m having trouble with is solidifying bonuses from the bones he’s collecting. My initial thought is to make them attuneable items that all count as one slot together that give him a free cast of a color-appropriate spell, but I don’t know if that’s too much or good enough. Like Cryovain giving a Cast of Rime’s Binding Ice and Venomfang’s giving a cast of Protection From Poison or something.
I also thought of having each one maybe affect his Eldritch Blast in some way or give him resistances, but the latter seems to be a bit much.
Any advice I could get in that regard would be really appreciated.
