How do DMs roll dice on D&D Beyond? (...on a desktop computer, outside of the Encounter Builder.)
• From a PC, DMs can't seem to roll on the Game Log outside of combat (and then only if you use Encounter Builder.)
• There's the dice roller on the D&D Beyond forums, but it crashes and gives buggy results regularly, and is clearly no longer supported by D&D Beyond.
For a game whose basic mechanic is rolling dice, you'd think that the D&D Beyond toolset would provide a Game Master with a way to... roll dice.
Is there? I understand that most of the DM's rolls are "behind the screen", for which they can use physical dice or a third-party digital tool, but sometimes DMs want the players in their campaigns to see their rolls.
You can create a basic character in the campaign, set it to private and call it DM Rolls. There you can roll dice, choose whether the dice rolls are visible or not in game log and can create custom actions for repeat rolls.

Thanks - that'd work - but it seems really odd to me. Of all the tools offered on D&D Beyond, you'd think that *rolling dice* would be the very first tool they'd build and offer.
What do other DMs do? Are they really just rolling physical dice? Or are they all on their phones? Or are they using other platforms?

Personally, I use a virtual table top (roll20), or I'll use Avrae (dice rolling bot) on discord. If all else fails, I use google where all you have to type is "roll d20" and it gives you the results and a neat little dice tray.
If I really want to roll on D&D Beyond outside of a VTT, I'll go to "My Encounters" and a dice icon will appear in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen that allows me to make digital rolls from there.

So the recommended way for DMs to use D&D Beyond is to... not use D&D Beyond? (Or only as a last resort?)
I'm not disagreeing or being snarky (at least toward your response)... I just think that D&D Beyond might want to think about what they could prioritize!
Sorta old post but wanted to give my two cents as dm dice still haven't been implemented on the browser version.
I just discovered that the campaign page in the mobile app does show the dice roller if one is a DM, and does send rolls to the game log. It would be nice if they added that to the online version, but the app option might be helpful in the meantime.
Otherwise I'd recommend just rolling manually either using google or your own dice set and then adding whatever appropriate monster stat block features. Otherwise, the encounter builder works, sorta, but honestly where it shines is keeping track of initiative order and AC and HP of all players and monsters.
Wanted to share my thoughts as I am currently running a descent into avernus campaign for 6 using dnd beyond. I've been really enjoying using the new maps feature and uploading my own custom maps for them to view.
FYI, to roll dice in the browser VTT you need to roll them from a character who is claimed in the campaign. Dice rolls from the character sheet populate in the game log. It's clunky and I hope they implement an actual dice roller in the VTT itself but the character sheet rolling seems to be the intent for now.
Forme, I go with one of two methods. Either I use the native dice in R20 or I'll reach into my crown royal sized bag of dice and then physically roll the dice.
