I've only had a glance at the Roll20 redesign, since I use Foundry these days and Roll20 looks very similar to the redesign that happened in Foundry when they announced their partnership with WotC for D&D back in January. My guess is that this is largely a case of Wizards dictating style sheets (layouts, colors, etc.) that character sheets should follow in the rollout to 1D&D. I was not at all a fan of the Roll20 character sheets for D&D (I'd stop short of 'dumpster fire' but I found them pretty awful, especially once I had used DDB character sheets), but I'd be curious to know if they've improved from an ease of use perspective?
Roll20 is refreshing thier character sheet design for the new edition...do you think DnD Beyond will get the same treatment?
They might do a refresh to while theyre adding some of the new mechanics.

This is the Roll20 redesign...its not rolled out yet but soon
That looks very nice. The effect toggles are a great idea.
There is a talk at GenCon about the digital future of D&D. Could be well get some news then. 🤷♂️
But I do agree a refresh could be nice.
