So, I preordered the alt covers through my local game store, and WOTC just...didn't ship enough of them? It's been months since the 2024 MM published and I'm still waiting. The store says they only received half the books they ordered, and they haven't been able to order more. I don't blame the store for this, the problem seems to be with WOTC, but I even reached out to WOTC customer service and they literally refused to give me an answer. Is anyone else running in to this issue? I paid for that book back in September...
The alternate covers always have been limited exclusives and stores frequently don't get enough to cover interest. That's what makes them limited; once the first run is done, it's gone.
As for "I paid for that book back in September", that's between you and the store, nothing to do with WotC. The store overcommitted on their actual stock availability and sold you something they couldn't deliver, so they should refund you. You might get really lucky and find the alt-covers elsewhere, but I wouldn't pin my hopes on it.

Luckily for me I did not prepay for the book at my local store, but while I was able to get the PH I was not able to get the DMG or MM. This limited run stuff just sucks. 1 the normal covers are terrible, I wont buy them they look that bad to me. 2. As people mentioned earlier about EBAY limited runs just benefit scalpers to the detriment of fans.

Well, this issue was explained to distributors about the time that you bought it (about September), so you should have been told this either at purchase or within a couple of weeks. There were problems with the printing and they were only able to get some out. A second run to address the issue wasn't under consideration.
The question is why an issue that came to light in September '24 is only being communicated to you in May '25. That has long stopped primarily being an issue with WotC.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I am in the same boat as you, and it is now into July. I haven't been able to find any explanation for this anywhere online. I read that WotC had been having a hard time finding a printer that could handle the scale necessary for a D&D print run and this was part of the reason behind the staggered release dates. But I don't see how they can't have printed enough by now.
The last update I got from our local games store is that they may have to either offer the standard cover version of the MM or issue a refund. Neither of those options is what I want.
@linklite thanks for this update! As far as I know, our local store was never informed of this. If they had been, they would for sure have given everyone a heads up!
How did you learn of this issue? And do you know why they weren't considering a second print run?
WotC sent out a letter informing LGSs last year, it was shared on Reddit and thus to here. As to why...I don't know. Probably expense - it's pretty expensive to print those. After a failed attempt to get them out, it probably wasn't economical to try again.
