That would take extra coding in the system with an already overtaxed dev team (naturally, due to WotC as a company being terrible at knowing how to actually run a company).
If we really want to go that route though, why does a Dagger show Finesse on a character with more Strength than Dexterity? It's a trait they clearly won't use.

Oh, I get that, I'm just saying: it's not the case that the way they've implemented this is the only possible way they could have implemented it, and it's also not the case that the only other thing they could've done is have duplicate versions of every single item. They made a decision to do it in this kind of half-assed way, and it's reasonable for people to be irritated by that.
