After reconsideration, since both the option of Grappler and Stunning Strike happen when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, i believe the rules on Simultaneous Effects should let you should decides the order in which those things happen.
That was my thinking, but I wasn’t sure so I wanted to ask and get opinions
This came up on my table as well. Timing issue, chicken or the egg. So we came up with a rule that SS saves would come first because in our opinion that would happen immediately, hence causing the save versus grappling to be failed because of stunned. But I have to declare the SS is being used before Hand. But it’s a decision simultaneous effects would apply.
Question do you have to hit with a unarmed strike to grapple or do you just have them make the save? That is without using the grappler feat. I ask because some articles online say you have to hit to grapple, but the unarmed strike just gives option and the damage option has a to hit roll in it.

Originally I had thought the same, that you had to hit first and then grapple. But others here pointed out, as you did, that it doesn’t say that. The only place it says you have to hit is under the damage option. Otherwise you would have to hit and have a failed save, when even in 2014 you only had to do the opposed rolls, you didn’t have to do two things.

The question is why are there articles that are wrong about grapple, if it is so cut and dry. That is the only thing I can't wrap my head around.
People are fallible and the rule is easily misunderstood.
Yep that and the rules prior didn't integrate saves.
