I used to play D&D way back in the 2nd edition Planescape campaign setting, eventually porting our characters to 3rd and 3.5. Then, as it tends to, "real life" happened.
Last year, I stumbled upon The Legend of Vox Machina series, which led me to discover Critical Role. From there, I found Baldur's Gate 3, the High Rollers’ D&D BG3 Cast playing D&D, and, finally, an official D&D live game with BG3 cast and Jeremy Crawford.
I was blown away. D&D went from an obscure, geeky, often-ridiculed “cult” to… a Hasbro-owned, thriving phenomenon with incredible products and best-selling video games.
Seeing all this, I picked up the PHB 2024, DMG 2024, and the Planescape 2023 campaign setting, deciding it was time to dive back into the amazing world of D&D.
While reading the PHB 2024, I fell head over heels for the Thief and got completely wrapped up in the new Planescape bundle, buried in the razorvine all over again.
In this thread, you'll find all my notes as I rediscover this brand-new, shiny world that I fell in love with years ago.
I’ll be exclusively studying and documenting my findings for the 2024+ official rules, along with some essential lore from 5th edition.
My goal with this post is to compile everything I need to write Firemind’s Thief Handbook: 2024+ Edition.
Here’s what I plan to study and document in the coming months:
