I really would like to see my 3D dice be of use in the MAPS table. I have many and if all I can do is use them as a player that kind of sucks. They do work in the Encounters app but that is being phased out...
Maps doesn't use 3d dice at all. This is likely because it's using instead an online random number API call (given that Maps is an always-online tool by function) to speed things up.
That Is one feature from the old encounter tracker I liked and still used it for. When we started using dndbeyond maps I was using the old encounter tracker along with maps because of the ability to keep track of all the hp and the Stat block. We switched to abovevtt now I'm thinking about maybe switching back when this goes live. https://9apps.ooo/

I get that......but I dont think its for the reason you state. DnD Beyond character sheets have 3d dice therefore Wizards NEEDS to make it happen otherwise they are selling digital dice to players only.....its borderline misleading to have an app...sell digital dice and then limit where you can use those dice ( apparently only players get to see digital dice?!!??!?!)
Yeah I may just use the old encounter tool instead of doiung it all in maps. The problem is that everything in the encounter tool is invisible to the players ie. initiative tracking. Its a lot of work to manage both systems [ MAPS and ENCOUNTERS] in the middle of combat. Just make ONE

Well Maps objectively does use an online pRNG API and objectively doesn't use the 3d dice which use a physics sim based pRNG for offline functionality. Hence the reasonable assumption that they haven't implemented the latter because it would be redundant given the former. That and people have been asking for instant dice rolling dice the feature came to DDB.
Also I have absolutely no idea what your point about who can use dice or where has to do with anything?
There's basically two different approaches to rolling 3d dice. One is to simulate the dice rolling and use the result. I believe this is how Roll20 has done things for over a decade. One possible problem with this is that you generate results differently depending on whether or not 3d dice are used, but this should be simple enough to deal with if implemented in a smart way. The other approach is to generate a 3d animation that gives you a predetermined result (i.e., what you actual RNG produced). This is how Foundry's Dice So Nice module works. The downside here is that it requires slightly more computation to do, but this shouldn't be a big problem either. I think either one could work, and one advantage of Maps being so far behind established VTTs is that they can pick and choose which features to copy from others.
I am a DM I want to see my 3d dice roll on screen when I am using MAPS. Simple. Right now only players can see their own dice roll on screen.
What you want doesn't have anything to do with the likelihood of possible reasons why it's not a supported feature though.......
WOW
Wow what? It's true, there's no connection between your wishes for functionality and the likelihood as to why the current feature works the way it does. Correct me if either I'm wrong or I'm misunderstanding you. But from my perspective, I gave a reason why I suspect the dice work the way they do, and you replied to me (I got the notification) with a feature you wished for. There's no connection there, did you maybe not mean to reply to my comment and thus notify me?
