I have been thinking about creating a Chaotic Evil Cleric/Paladin multiclass.
So I was thinking of having a Cleric of Lolth (the Goddess of Shadows and Lies) who derives her power from her worship of Lolth. She worships Lolth and in return Lolth grants her power.
So as a Cleric of a Chaotic Evil entity, the abilities this character wields are all twisted forms of what you would expect from a Cleric of a good aligned entity.
This characters belief in Lolth is so strong that Lolth quite literally choses her to be her champoin, turning her from just a Cleric into a Cleric/Paladin multiclass character.
Also, I am thinking that this character draws power from darkness rather than light and that through her bond with Lolth she is able to cloke herself and an area around her up to 60 feet in magical darkness that moves as she does - this darkness doubles the characters attack and defense stats for 2 turns.
If she is unable to defeat her oponants within those two turns however, she is left weakened by the effort of channeling so much if Lolth's power and loses part of her humanity in the process. So this a somewhat dangerous move. It's like a super move that would guarantee her victory but one that she would only use if she stands no chance of defeating her oponants any other way.
One that if used too often, would eventually leave her nothing more than a rampaging savage beast and entirely under the command of Lolth.
Also, I am thinking because she is a Paladin (champion) of Lolth, one of the abilities she gains is the ability to melt into the shadows and use them to sneak attack.
This coupled with the fact that she draws power from the dark, makes her a dangerous enemy to face at night - the darkness increases the potency of her attacks and the shadows created by the moon or the lights of a village/town/city allows her to attack from anywhere at any time.
(Still turn dependant of course. I just mean that on her turn, she can attack from an entirely different place that she did last - she is literally using the shadows to sort of temport between them - she melts into the shadows, moved into a different realm (the shadow realm maybe?) and then reappears from an entirely different shadow)
Anyway, having explained the character that I plan on creating, I have one problem. Well three problems.
1. Is Lolth still alive and free at present time
2. Would Lolth even care about having Clerics and Paladins
3. Is such a character even feasable in a Realms based world using the 5e system
Oh and one other thing. Would it make sense for this character to be a human?
Hopefully you guys can help me out here because I've n very created a chaotic evil Paladin or Cleric before. I have always thought of Paladins and Clerics as being LG not CE.
If you have Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, it has a lot of information on Lolth.
1. She's not exactly free, though nor is she necessarily trapped as Tiamat is, but she's definitely alive and very active.
2. She is highly, highly involved with Drow society, a constantly testing mistress. A god who is that involved, one could say far more so than Corellon himself, would definitely have paladins and clerics.
3. I won't get into the abilities themselves you talked about, that's up to your DM. But a Cleric of Lolth turned Paladin champion? That certainly has a place in the 5e Realms.
As for being human, for shits and giggles you could do whatever you want. If you're trying for a more serious game, any non-female drow would take a lot of explanation and probably come across as more than a little snowflakey.
Yes, Lolth is active, yes she still has all her clerics and dark paladins (most likely Oathbreakers). If anything, 5th edition has made clerics and champions more important to gods, because Ao has severely limited divinities from directly acting on the Realms, requiring the majority of interaction to be through clerics as well as signs and portents. That said, practically every table has different ways of running the Realms, so don't count on anything. Especially given that many DMs will have different levels of knowledge of the Realms if running there.
Strictly by the rules, its technically possible to do all that with a character. Realistically, you're going to definitely going to need to talk to your DM - Lolth is an evil, murderous sociopath, and encourages sociopathic tendencies in her followers; that's not exactly something that fits in most gaming groups for the PC party. The fact that you want a non-elf follower is also going to raise a flag with many DMs, because Lolth is rather well known for being extremely sexist and racist; not saying Lolth would never appoint a human champion, but it is very strange and quite possibly a bit too far out there for many games. Teleporting through shadows and sneak attacking is mainly a known as a shadow-monk (5th edition's version of the shadowdancer) skill, so you'll have to talk to your DM about basically merging several archetypes into one class progression here, and custom content is tricky with DMs. Custom magic items may very well need to come into play as well. It feels like you're trying to avoid multiclassing when, by all rights, this sounds like a character with several classes.
The long and short of the matter is that all these questions and concerns can really only be asked of your DM. Given the amount of custom content the character requires, there's no way this would be AL legal, so you need a local table, and the DM will have final say on this controversial character.
I had some thoughts about her being Human. Basically, I had the idea that Lolth was so impressed that a Human would worship her with such willingness and intensity that she decided that she would play with this Human for a while. I had a sort of thought that she would be even less tolerant of a Humans frailties and weaknesses than she would of the Drow though, so while this Human has Lolth's patronage for now, who knows when Lolth will get bored of her or simply abandon her because she has shown one too many Human weaknesses.

From what I have read about the Spider Queen, she probably wouldn't bother with a human follower but that us up to your DM.
Ask your DM, that's literally the only way to know. Just 'cause a book says something doesn't mean that's how it is in that DM's individual game.
