I'm a fan of MorePurpleMoreBetter's auto-fillable character sheet, which I've both printed out for at the table use and keep as a PDF on my computer to update when I get home from games. It almost includes too much information, but you can obviously pick and choose which pages you'd like to use.
Anyone have a mirror of this? It's no longer available at the link in this comment :(

I like the fact I could create and update my character easily after each session and the sheet would update automatically for me, saving me time. Instead WOTC want to ram D&D Beyond Daylight Robbery down our throats. I have purchased hard copies of every 5e book why would I want to purchase everyone again just so I could create a Character that has options and rules from those various books!!
WOTC really screwed the pooch, and they are making me and a lot of other players cry foul, well played WOTC you have become the villain you always wanted to be.
All we want is a character sheet that automates the process simply, but if you think i'm handing over in excess of £150 AGAIN for that privilege then you and your team are deluded.

WOTC isn't behind D&D Beyond, Curse is. Please take a moment to review the FAQs and become acquainted with the site before speaking to assumptions. As such, Curse is a separate retailer than game shops, book stores, and WOTC. What you purchase at one retailer does not entitle additional copies from alternate sellers.

Whatever, we know who controls reins, my point is still valid, its a poor decision that just smacks of money grabbing from a community who spend a hell of a lot towards the hobby, but someone thinks its ok to charge us a second time.

Your point isn't valid because it is based on factually incorrect information.
If you don't want to buy the products here, then that's your choice and completely fine.

When did Curse charge you a first time? They haven't.
If you choose to repurchase content under a different medium, that's your choice. You can also choose not to. Best Buy isn't giving away free movies because you bought the book at Walmart. Sorry, that's not how the world works.
The most amusing thing I find from this is how prevalent the complaining is here. I don't see people on Reddit whining about how Roll20 and FG don't give them free copies of the corresponding titles, especially since they both were even more expensive previously.
Edit: Roll20 still charges full MSRP as well, it seems.
Agreement in regards to purple's auto-fill. Digital or pen and paper, it does everything right. I love the fact that it has places for feats, can track expertise, and an itemized AC calculator, among many other things. It's just SOOOO useful.
That being said, it does have one weakness which is shared by almost all character sheets, and that is that proficiencies aren't grouped by stat.
I was a fan of the MPMB sheet before DDB, but it wasn't perfect and I think DDB passes it up in a couple of areas.
#1, The load times were extremely slow. Especially when generating a spell sheet. With DDB, I can log in a get a character ready for the table in like 10 minutes. Trying to make a new character with MPMB's sheet still took roughly an hour, especially when dealing with newer players who were overwhelmed with choices.
#2, It wasn't entirely automated. You still had to know what you were doing, or else it was easy to skip sections or leave stuff off. Finding out that my players had missed proficiency bonuses was very common. DDB gives notifications when there are still choices to be made regarding skills and abilities, meaning nothing important gets skipped over. MPMB's sheet did a lot for you, but offered very little in the way of guidance.
Admittedly, those are 2 very minor gripes considering how awesome the sheet was overall, but I think from what I've seen so far, DDB is going to eventually be a far superior product once the builder/sheet updates are out. I know, it sucks because we lost a free thing and now we have to pay for stuff, but if the thing I'm paying for is worth the cost, I'm fine with it.
DDB's character generator is too rigid. I'd rather use a pen and paper and a physical book, than DDB.
And MPMB doesn't take THAT long to generate a spell sheet, and in exchange gives you full details on your spells, so that you (usually) have what you need to play. No looking up spells is nice.
I have purchased MPMB, Fight Club 5 and a few others. All of them are good. But at the end of the day, I found the DDB character sheet to be my favorite, even with the current limitations. It was up to date whether I was on laptop, iPad or iPhone. It has quick access to spells, and enough flexibility to add what I needed (like a mount) in my notes. That was all as a player.
As a DM, I mandated that everyone used DDB, because I could look at each character and try to include special things in each campaign for their special skills, or history, or class. For example, I had one player who was just starting and nervous to engage. She was a cleric and I had some special opportunities for her to connect with the townsfolk by healing some sick children.
I didn’t like paper. Raised on AD&D from my youth, I like where the tech has gone and it is much better now than having to do all the manual work on paper. I remember rubbing holes through some parts of the form after changing things so many times. But thinking back on character sheets and graph paper will always make me smile. Just my two cents.

I feel like there needs to be a support group for these people. DDB Haters Anonymous or something.

I use TOS FIVE to manage my 5th edition Characters. You can either use printouts, or use a LapTop if you prefer dynamic play.
