Hey guys. I’m trying to create a dr strange type of character for dnd. I already chose to be a wizard, so I just need suggestions for spells, both level 1 and two, and a suggested subclass.
As with all these types of posts, these are all personal opinions. First, for subclass, Dr. Strange seems best as an abjurer or diviner. Abjurer is for mystic wards and things like that and diviner is minor use of the Time Stone to change outcomes into one of the other possible futures.
Most of these spells will be chosen by any wizard trying to make it to level 5 and beyond, but those are the ones that most suit the flavor of Dr. Strange.
I feel like the school of illusion would work for a Dr Strange type character, just cause any spells that drastically alter reality are very high level, so you could just make it seem like you're altering reality.
Honestly at that point Doctor Strange would still be well... a doctor, so why not a cleric / wizard or sorcerer multiclass, and then put more levels into wizard / sorcerer as you go on.

For first level offense spells, magic missile and ice knife. And defensive spells: shield, absorb elements and feather fall.
For second level offense spells, hold person, Maximilian's earthen grasp and levitate. Defensively: mirror image and misty step.

When I created my Dr.Strange character, I went a slightly different way: Human (variant) sorcerer (Divine Soul), Sage background, Ritual Caster feat.
But that was just me. I play many wizards and wanted to try something slightly different.
Watch your back, conserve your ammo,
and NEVER cut a deal with a dragon!
Thanks! Another question, any feats you recommend besides ritual casting?
It depends on race and how close you want to come to Dr. Strange.
Human variant: Prodigy or Healer might be good. Resilient for an extra save. Lucky if you yourself aren't. :)

Not exactly 'optimal', but could be fun.
I still say the best way to go is still human Divine Soul sorcerer with the Healer feat. Then, at 4th level take the Ritual Master feat (wizard). :)
