I have a question about Monsters and the easiest way to get them into the Game as tokens? I totally get and love using monsters from DND beyond I own Monster Manual there. What is the quickest and best way to get them into a token within roll20 itself? That is the part confusing me at the moment.
@Eriksson: That's not really a Beyond20 thing, more of a Roll20 'how to' thing. I think the easiest way would be to import the token images into your Roll20 library then just drag and drop them into the page. You could also look up the monsters in the Roll20 compendium (if you have it) and drag & drop it into the page.
If you use (or switch to) Foundry VTT instead of Roll20, there is a module for it to integrate with D&D Beyond which would let you import monsters from D&D Beyond directly into FVTT.
I just started having an issue this weekend with a roll not appearing correctly. I had a +1 Greatsword and it worked perfectly fine. I now have a +2 Greatsword and whenever I try to make an attack roll it does not ask what kind of roll to make and just outputs the damage only to Roll20. I tried removing and re-adding the item and it happens each time. I even tried modifying my +1 greatsword adding another point of damage and to hit and it caused it to create the same error.
@VixiTrix: With Opera, you can install chrome extensions directly from the chrome web store. When I tried, it asked me to install some compatibility extension then it adds the 'Add to Opera' button on the chrome store extensions.
@Dos246: Make sure that you equip the weapon first. You'll notice that there is no "To Hit" information anywhere on the equipment page, only on the Actions page, so it needs to be rolled from the Actions page for Beyond20 to pick up its To Hit value and then caches the value so it remembers it.
When you modified your +1 Greatsword, the name changed (from "+1 Greatsword" to "+1 Greatsword*") which is shy it stopped working from the equipment page, if you went to actions page, and rolled there, it would have worked (then subsequent rolls from equipment page would have worked as it would have remembered the to-hit it last used).
Hi! Is there a way to roll damage on it's own instead of rolling it with the initial d20?
For example, if I want to know how much damage an attack does, but only after I find out if it hits first? Then, I'd turn off the auto damage in the settings, but then is there a way to actually roll the damage after I find out it hits?
Secondary question: 'Casting' a spell in D&D Beyond doesn't display on Roll20 but does remove a spell slot. However, using the "Cast on VTT" button casts it on Roll20, but doesn't remove a spell slot. Is there a setting for changing this, or is it just something that's not currently supported?
I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you, and I just tested it, it works fine for me here.
Note: the /emas command is used when you change conditions on your character sheet and is used to show in chat "Character is : Restrained" as an emote for example.
@Hatchaplan : You can disable the auto-roll crits and damages from the settings, and when you do, you can roll damages by clicking the weapon name for the roll (it will be pink to show it's clickable, and no I don't control the color unfortunately).
As for your second question, casting the spell should roll it on Roll20, and I also just tested and it does work for me. The "Cast on VTT" doesn't remove a spell slot on purpose because you may want to cast a spell without using a spell slot. For example, you rolled with advantage by mistake and the DM says to reroll without, or for magic missile or scorching ray, you have multiple missiles/rays, so you need to roll multiple times, but it would only use one spell slot. And there are various other situations where you would want to simply roll it (or display the spell description in chat) without it consuming a spell slot, which is why it doesn't. Clicking the D&D Beyond button that casts the spell and consumes a spell slot should also cast it on the VTT at the same time however.
I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you, and I just tested it, it works fine for me here.
Note: the /emas command is used when you change conditions on your character sheet and is used to show in chat "Character is : Restrained" as an emote for example.
It's a GM exclusive command. Rejoin as a player and try again.
/em works for plaýers: "/em is : Restrained" shows "Pandak Swordhand is : restrained"
@Pandak_Swordhand: ahh, thanks for pointing it out, I totally missed that it was saying GM exclusive right in the page I linked you to. I've never been as a player on Roll20, so never noticed it wasn't available to everyone.
By the way, everyone. I've released 0.9 yesterday, though it still hasn't landed in the Chrome store, it is already available to Firefox users. Hopefully, it won't take more than a day or two for Chrome to finish 'reviewing' the extension.
Awesome! I've spent my day researching Beyond20 and Foundry VTT. Apparently, the only way to access FVTT at this point is via patreon support. Which, I'm fine with. I just find myself with LOTS of questions already pertaining to both systems:
1. I don't know that I'm much of a world creator. All of my home-brew campaigns have been "theatre of the mind" so to say. But...I guess it's worth checking out doing. Is that what Foundry would do and/or can I load the maps from Beyond in a pre-made adventure using Beyond20? These are things I still feel iffy on despite all the research I've done as I can't find examples of it being done. Guess I'm still unsure how mapping is done or controlled from using both systems together.
2. I use Safari. Is use strictly limited to Chrome and Firefox browsers? I've never used either. I also use Apple products exclusively. Does that matter when it comes to browser support?
3. I play strictly in person, but still find myself intrigued and interested in this to improve upon my in person games. However, how much benefit could I realistically expect? I should probably preface this saying I'm not the most tech savvy person out there and "coding" type stuff is typically.......out of my bounds if we are being honest. For my games as of late, is opening up new windows and tabs to push maps, images, etc, over to a TV via extended desktop from my laptop computer. This is pretty advanced stuff for me and I feel like I'm flying in modern tech. With that said, I want something that will still improve upon my DM experience and completely immerse my players without being overly difficult and still add to the in-person dynamic. What I've been doing is really cool. I love it. My players have been ecstatic. But, it is still something that could definitely be improved upon. And...I just wonder if something along this line is the answer?
1. Beyond20 is for pushing dice rolls from character sheets and monster stat blocks, along with syncing pc health, from D&D beyond to a virtual tabletop. It doesn't do anything with maps
2. It's Firefox and Chrome only, Safari doesn't support extensions designed to be compatible with those browsers.
3. It's designed much more for digital play, particularly when using the digital character sheets on D&D beyond (see point 1)
Thanks, Dave. That definitely clears up most all of my questions. In that regard, I probably wouldn't see a huge benefit to Beyond 20 for my personal uses since we play strictly in person. But, still looking into the VTT arena to see what is feasible there. Again, much appreciated.
@Pandak_Swordhand: ahh, thanks for pointing it out, I totally missed that it was saying GM exclusive right in the page I linked you to. I've never been as a player on Roll20, so never noticed it wasn't available to everyone.
Hi! First off, I'm loving this extension - I've only been playing with it for an hour or so, but I'm really really impressed with what it can do.
Second, I submitted a new bug report, but I wanted to put it here as well, in case you're still checking this and can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
When I try to use a Flame Tongue Longsword, I am able to roll without issue. However, when I try to do the same with the Staff of Striking I am only able to send the weapon's information card, there is no option to roll.
Both weapons show the Beyond20 button, but for the Flame Tongue Longsword there is a small D20 icon on the button, for the Staff there is not.
My feeling is this may be because the Staff has a number of charges that I can choose to use when I hit, but I cannot be sure. Any thoughts you can provide?
Lots of messages here that I missed! Thanks Dave for picking up the slack :)
@ManOfValor : I think you need to find a VTT for your needs. You can still use Beyond20 as a dice roller without a VTT, but it is unfortunately meant to work with Chrome or Firefox. I don't know if Safari has any support for browser extensions.
@Pandak_SwordHand: It was fixed and released in 0.9. Thanks again for reporting it.
@CantarellaMiyani: As I answered in github (and re-iterating here for posterity), the staff has no information and it's an issue with D&D Beyond. The best solution is to simply add a Quarterstaff and roll from it.
@Artemisthemp: Good luck, and have fun in your game this weekend! :)

Not sure if anyone asked, but, is there a way to get Beyond 20 instaleld on Oprea?

That took care of it, I knew I was missing something. Thank you!
Great addon you have done here. It's just awesome!
I found one thing when we played last time on roll20 and having a condition. This was the error message on roll20:
Unrecognized command: /emas
Something I forgot to tick or an error?

Thanks for your time! This is amazing work!
@Pandak_Swordhand : That's very weird. the /emas command is a standard Roll20 command, see https://wiki.roll20.net/Text_Chat#Speaking_and_Emoting_as_a_Random_NPC_.28.2Fas.29_.28.2Femas.29
I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you, and I just tested it, it works fine for me here.

Thanks for the report. I've filed an issue (here if you want to follow up on it : https://github.com/kakaroto/Beyond20/issues/89) so should get it fixed for the next update.
This is an amazing tool - can't wait to use it!
I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1 - Resubscribed 28th of Jan, now the SRD is in CC-BY-4.0
Thanks!

KaKaRoToDM looking forward to trying this out on next Saturday.
Maybe I can totally avoid the headach of using the outdated Roll 20 sheet
