He is a jealous, arrogant little brat, whose narcissistic selfobsession is his greatest weakness.
He believes himself to be the best, the strongest, the bravest and he will not walk away from a fight. He will never surrender and never admit that he is wrong.
However: Threaten or harm his friends, his guild or the people he loves or has sworn to protect and he will quite literally burn you to ash. For as much as his narcissism is his greatest weakness, his righteous anger is his greatest strength, and there will be no power in this world, or the next that will shield you from his wrath.
He will avenge those he loves, or die trying. There is no other way.
So what kind of character does this sound like. What race and class, alignment do you imagine him as being and how would you expect to see this character played.

A caffeinated nerd who has played TTRPGs or a number of years and is very much a fantasy adventure geek.
I'd say barbarian (Berserker, Storm Herald, or Zealot) or sorcerer (Draconic, Phoenix (UA), or Pyromancer (Kaladesh). Barbarian lets you rage. Sorcerer lets you learn plane shift.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both" -- allegedly Benjamin Franklin
What if he was a Sorcerer who got his power from the soul of a fire giant? So literally his anger explodes out of him in a wave of heat flames, like an exploding volcano on the plane of fire.
And just like fire, he can't control himself when he's in that state. He just burns everything and everyone around him.
I am thinking that he would be from a noble bloodline, who has never had to say sorry for anything in life, and who is used to people just saying yes to him or giving him whatever he asks for and telling him great he is and things like that.
He is also used to people wanting to be his friend, and he just expects it. After all, who wouldn't want to be friends with the Prince?
Why is he adventuring? Well during one of his rages, his flames set fire to his family home, burning it down and killing his wife and child.
Imagine the termoil he must be in. The only thing that means more to him than himself, is the ones he loves and he is responsible for killing those whom loved the most.
So we have a sort of "labours of Hercules" kind of thing. He is on a mission to earn his families forgiveness, by completing 12 difficult tasks.
Though he starts out distant and angry and suffering emense emotional pain, over the course of a campaign he would grow as a person, learn to control his fire and his rage, learns to rely on others and makes many friends along the way.
Finally redeeming himself by returning home to put an end to his father's tyrannical reign.
Saving his people from a tyrannical ruler, and not becoming a tyrant himself would be like his last task. With that he redeams himself and earns the forgiveness of his wife and child, who are now able to move on to their respective afterlives - now that their pain and anger no longer keeps them here.

This could be a strong concept to build a paladin around. Paladins are some of the most strongly driven by beliefs and ideals of any D&D characters. This character fits within an extreme of Lawful Good. They are driven to do what is right, at least as they see it. They will protect and avenge those they care about and see as "good" people. An arrogant knight in the Knight in Shining Armor tradition.
It would make an interesting background for a Warlock. His patron whispered in his ear that he is the Chosen One and the patron will help him achieve the greatness he is destined for.
