New to this site and trying to get the hang of things.
For my first ever 5e campaign, I'm crafting a CG Dhampir Blood Hunter who's a "Daughter of Kali"/demon hunter who made a pact with a demon hunting goddess (DM made a homebrew setting, but seems to be currently permitting my creation of this sub-sect of the Order of the Profane Soul).
However, I'm encountering something odd and a tad bit annoying. I selected Order of the Profane Soul (WIS), and specifically selected during early build for her primary ability scores to be Strength and Wisdom, so I made those two my highest scores. I just noticed tonight that it instead counts Dex and Int for her saving throw proficiencies, but I am unsure if that's automatic, regardless of my choices, or if something glitched over the course of the past few weeks of developing this character.
If this can be fixed, do I have to start over with her class build? I have another week before I attend session zero with the group I'm joining, but the DM wants characters being built through this site to be submitted this weekend.
I don't know if this goes here, but I am planning on, in my next campaign, having a Order of the Mutagen shopkeeper who makes and sells one use potion like mutagens. And I need help determining the price of the various Mutagens.
I have virtually no knowledge about how bloodhunters work. I understand the flavor and lore and all, but I haven't really researched them enough. So as part of my quest for understanding this class, I have a question.
What is your favorite bloodhunter subclass and why?
Appreciator of all things Weird, Wondrous, and/or Yummy
In the Autumn Country, days end quickly, the gloaming hours linger, and the midnights pile one upon the other till the air is thick and flows like twilight syrup.
I chose order of the Lycan. It was pretty lackluster in the beginning but my Dm let me write my own blood ritual and i am able to drink mutagens/potions, made during this ritual (like a witcher) when i go into my hybrid form. I get certain boons and buffs when i do so.
In case this thread is still active, does anyone else think that profane soul should get more spell slots? I know that it's just an offshoot of warlock which technically only gets 4, but warlocks also get invocations, mystic arcanums, and features that let them regain spell slots. BH's don't even get to pick what their arcanum spells are or access to the expanded spell list. I think bare minimum BHs should get at least 4 spell slots. It would also be cool if we get to choose our arcanums. I don't think we need invocations since it would make blood curses redundant. I'm trying to think of other ways to improve the subclass, but overall my main gripe is the spell slot number. I want to be able to swing swords and cast spells, but I'm hesitant to do so with such a limited ressource.
An idea I've been doing with my hunter is that I can amplify spells like I do curses. It's kind of fun and I've been experimenting with how the spells change and even options to allow for amplifying multiple times to get a bigger effect.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how the BH fits in with the new 2024 PHB? Does it get weapon masteries or anything else? Or should I just wing it and find something not too broken?

I doubt we'll ever get an official update to an unofficial class, especially with Critical Role possibly moving on from D&D. Having said that on a similar thread about updating the artificer someone made the point that weapon mastery seems to be limited to classes that don't get cantrips as a standard class feature, so it makes sense that the Blood Hunter would get at least one mastery

Thank you.

That's a really neat idea, amplifying spells. I might use that the next time I play a profane soul.

I found a reddit page that has an updated version that seems to be balanced enough. The biggest noticeable change is the Hit Dice become d12 from d10 so amplifying curses isn't always a problem. Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/1eo9rqs/2024_rules_with_bloodhunter/
Let me know what you guys think!
