I know this question must get asked on a regular basis but I was hoping someone could recommend a oneshot that would work well for an older crowd? I have a group of 50(ish)yo women who have never really engaged with anything nerdy, much less a TTRPG despite all of them being very curious about it (it doesn't help I won't shut up about it).
I'm hoping for something that threads the needle between showcasing the fun of TTRPGs and the rules system but isn't overwhelming in its complexity. Something to hook 'em so I can reel them into the deep end of dice hoarding and longer campaigns.
At this point, I'd say homebrew the campaign. It kinda depends on the DM, but I feel like I overstress prewritten campaigns, but enjoy the layout for a longer journey for characters. For one shots I always homebrew as it is simply easier for me to create a theme and setting catered to the players that isn't so long term. Another thing, that I've encountered, is that older women in particular are less accepting of "magic". So, I generally counterbalance that by introduction of different weapons and machinery that can almost replicate all the spells. The ones I can't figure out I just keep away from those homebrew campaigns. But, this just comes to the point of it being important to have a session 0 to see what the players expect and to know where you can best meet them for their best enjoyment of the game.

Hi!

Thanks!
