Playing online seems like a great idea, but which is the best service?
My ideal features include:
Less than $5/month subscription
Purchased modules/campaigns can be easily loaded onto the gaming area e.g. buy storm kings thunder and all of the maps, monster tokens, loot etc are loaded in for easy access. It virtually runs itself, the DM just needs to control the flow and bring it to life.
Video and verbal chat built in
Dice roller
Ambient music
Support for improv
Integration with dndbeyond
What are your ideal features ?
Does any service have it all?
Does wizards have there own virtual table that integrates minis, bought modules, dice rolling etc
Makes sense to me for wizards to have their own virtual table and every time they release new content it is usable at the table. e.g. animated miniatures, maps, modules, monsters, integration with dndbeyond for access to character sheets and digital books.
There was a feature survey that showed people wanted the app and offline content before a vtt. You should be able to find the survey graph with a forum search if you want to see what features people wanted. They said they are working on the app with offline content now. They also said they would announce an API for wotc partners like roll20 and fantasy grounds. We don't know what features the API will support or if D&D Beyond players can play at both. I would be greatly disappointed if the API was only for roll20 and fantasy grounds. An API can allow for a ton of useful DM tools and 3rd party 3D virtual table tops. I think a lot of people are waiting on the APP and API before they make a big content purchase. I would hope the 3rd party API would at least provide some of the functionality you see in the Twitch integration video. At this time no service provides all the features you want in one place.

Thanks for your opinions.
