I do wish Beyond had it set up a bit like Roll20 where there's a dynamic map that can be revealed one hex at a time. In lieu of that however, I just printed out the player map and will let my players fill it out themselves with some guidance from me as they travel through it.
One option I have toyed with is throwing the DM's map into photoshop and making a fog layer I can erase a bit of every session and give them an updated map.
Infinitas DM is a simple program I use that lets me attach a monitor to my laptop and shows a fog of war over the map, which you manually remove as they see more. It's mainly designed for in person or play by mail gaming rather than as a VTT.

Does anyone have any good ideas for revealing new areas on the player map once the players have explored them?

I made a huge color copy of the unexplored side and plan of having my players mark it all up with their discoveries =)
