I think the model of being able to buy individual elements from PHB for a one-time cost is a good compromise. My question is, if I invite a player to my campaign, and they want to create a character with a background and/or subclass that's an additional cost, can I as the DM still "see" that character, assign XP, etc, without buying the item multiple times or the pro-level subscription?
For example: I'm the DM, I'm on the completely free tier. I send an invite. A player wants to create a 3rd-level Rogue with the Sailor background and the Assassin Roguish Archetype. They purchase those upgrades for $2 each. Assuming no other players in the party also want that subclass or background, are we done? Or do I as the DM ALSO have to have them in order to interact with the character?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this was answered elsewhere. I've read the FAQ and couldn't exactly figure it out.

No, the DM can always see the sheet, even if the DM hasn't bought anything.
