For anyone running a Tomb of Annihilation campaign,
How are you guys handling player movement in Chult? Are you following the books advice and rolling for encounters and going hex by hex? Or some other way?
Personally i'm planning on doing a hex crawl like in the book. I think it keeps that feeling of exploration in the story. I will however pregen the encounters to speed up gameplay. I.E. random encounter occurs, pick from my pregenned list etc
I just started to lay the ground work for getting my players into of Tomb of Annihilation, but I plan on using the hex crawl myself. Being weary from the journey is part of the fun.
I'll be doing a hexcrawl like the book suggests, but instead of random encounters I'm pre-crafting every hex with some sort of event (sometimes an encounter, sometimes just a description of the area, and sometimes a more intricate custom location). The reason I'll be doing this is because I'm going to be running two groups simultaneously through the campaign in a shared world, and I want everything to stay consistent.
I too will be running it as a Hexcrawl as suggested. However, keep in mind that the book does say you should feel free to move locations around to suit your needs. There are a few encounters I want to make sure my party gets to do, so even though I'm doing a Hex crawl, they will be seeing Nangalore, whether or not they go to the hex it is supposed to be located in. Mostly because I really want the to run across a particular magic item.
