Nobody really talks about this much, but every class has it's own specificity/role in a party. I thought it might be fun to list them here, it might help people better build their parties with each role.
Barbarian: Tank. Heavy damage, high resistance.
Bard: Support unit/Social. Sidelines character in battle, buffs their team. Most spell slots, short spell list.
Cleric: Healer. Casts healing spells and deals tank damage. High AC, Low HP.
Druid: Shifter. Casts spells on the environment, interacts with nature.
Fighter: Custom! The cool thing about fighters is that they can literally be anything they want. Samurai, knight, whatever! Not good for spells though.
Monk: USELESS!!!!! Wanna be Bruce Lee? Well too bad, you can't! Monks are like the old ranger: sounds cool, has no real use.
Paladin: Spellcasting Tank. Buff and heal your teammates from the sidelines, or stand on the frontlines and smite your enemies! One of the best classes, in my opinion.
Ranger: Specialized Unit. The rangers biggest flaw is also its biggest bonus. They are specialized for a certain type of fighting, like dragons in the mountains, or fiends in the underdark, etc. They are a very versatile class in terms of builds, but once a build is selected, it can't be built on, or at least not in the builder (Phew! That was a mouthful).
Rogue: Stealth Unit. Attack quick and stealthily, but with not much damage. Not particularly useful, unless you just want to be a ninja.
Sorcerer: Innate spellcaster. Low HP, lots of spell slots, and several proficiencies. If you want a spellcaster, this is your best bet.
Warlock: Explosives! No, not really. All they're good for is eldritch blast. Also, have you noticed how many subclasses use the warlock spell table? I can name at least three.
Wizard: Knowledge. Wizards might not have a lot of hp, spell slots, known spells, or proficiencies, but their spell table is better than any other character. They have access to every spell from every sourcebook (provided you have those books bought). They can even cast wish!
Blood Hunter: Dark Magic. Let's be honest. Blood hunters are the best. They have the best subclasses, they can be martial fighters, tanks, spellcasters, or even werewolves! They satisfy people who are all about building background, and people who are all about stats. They are basically a better version of a fighter multiclassed with a better version of a monk, warlock, or barbarian.
So what do you think? Which is your favorite? Tell me in the poll, and tell me how you are building your party by commenting!
