I am makeing a royal family of half elfs, whos leader is who ever inherits the "divine blessing" aka, is a divine soul sorcerer. However, comeing up with good names is a ability l lack, therefore, l ask for ideas. To be specific, l am asking help with the family's last name.
Any (serous) idea is welcome, from actual names, to advice for comeing up with one.to examples of royal names you have used. Or names of divine soul sorcerers you've played, or played with.
(Also, plese focus on the "Royal divine soul sorcery bloodline" part more then the "half-elf" part. The race is not as important as a good last name.)
Ok, so far, l have Suoralusfaen, which is "holy blood" in elvish, according to this. Please try to give me something better.(ie, pronounceable)
Ok, so, unless someone gives me something better, l'm going with: Arsarlani)
Uh, i think you’d have some siblings that are half elves, not a family dynasty....the ruling parent would be either human or elf. Just use a human/elf name generator.
and good luck getting a kingdom of humans or elves to follow one of those halfelf kids
don't half elvs breed more half elves? also, its a holy bloodline, so the deity could make them half elves even if the ruler mated with a dwarf. (theoretically). Point is, they are a bloodline of Half elves, so l need help comeing up with a good name for them, not the logistics of how they are all half elves. Besides, the half elf part is for extra context. the main focus is the royal divine sorcerer bloodline.
Check out Eberron, it looks like there's a Half-Elf culture you may be able to extrapolate, lesser extent but WGtW might be of use too.
As for half elves breeding half elves? We're debating fiction with loose foundations. Half Elves are described in the PHB as having elf and human parentage, but no reason it has to be that way. Some games could presume half-elves are actually unable to create offspring (as is the case in some IRL crossbreeding). Half-Elves could cultivate a "line" like a royal lineage. Or you could complicate things where two half-elves could have children that are either elf, human, or half-elf. In your "bloodline" thinking, you might want to play with that if you want to have literally bred-in intrigue. Human or elf offspring wants to make a play for the throne against custom and all that.
As for the family name. That's kind of game world depending. In PHB it's said half elves tend to take human or elf names pending on upbringing. Depending on this noble reign and their people, one thing you could do is have a family name that is a human name, as well as a family name that is elvish, their respective subjects addressing them or honoring them accordingly. For example in the PHB it offers Holimion as an elf name that means Diamondew in the human tongue. But Elvish is a made up language, so this is one of those you can really do whatever you want. What do you want their language or lineage to sound like?
honestly, l haven't thought that far ahead. Right now, l just have a king and his 6 children (all nameless) and the fact that they are royalty and the one with "the blessing" (divine soul sorcerer) is the one who gets the throne. (that and the location of the capital, but l don't think thats important)
I think in the traditional sense of a half elf, a Lineage doesn’t make sense (imo), but if that’s how your world works, sure....but imo, the names don’t matter much- just pick one. A royal name only sounds royal because it was a regular o’ name that became royal.
Just remember, it is highly unlikely your players will care what the name is. Sorry but that is just the way it is. They just don’t really care. Stick with something simple and easy to pronounce and remember, that is my advice.
Honestly, I use a fantasy name generator and keep clicking through until I find one I like. I believe the one attached to DnDBeyond is fantasynamegenerators.com and that's the one I generally use. It's always growing and there are tons of genres to choose from. I have no affiliation with this site but use it all the time.
Devabrook (pronounced as DEH - vah - bruk): The family name was founded several generations back when a celestial visited the first divine-soul sorcerer, who was sitting next to a small stream within a wooded glen that is now considered a holy site within the current kingdom. The celestial explained to the budding sorcerer that they possessed a holy spark within their blood and that they were destined for greatness. The sorcerer would one day rule a kingdom of their own, and their descendants would also rule when the divine spark blossomed within them...but only one or two per generation would carry this holy blessing. When the sorcerer returned from the glen, the story about this angelic visitor quickly spread among the nearby villages. It wasn't long before everybody referred to the sorcerer as Devabrook, because he was visited by a "Deva" by the "brook" in the glen...

Oh, that is good. Though, not for this royal family, as l have a different backstory for them, but l will 100% use this for a different royal family.

I got the same name from LingoJam, but I tend to join the words together with an apostrophe, and shorten them if they get too long, so maybe Suora'Faen or Suorafaen.
For first names for elves and dwarves, i tend to lean towards LotR style name. For tiefling names, I consult my dictionary of the angels and make some minor changes.

What about Sangreal? There are lots of conotations/meaning/alternate spellings equating it to the holy grail, royal blood, divine ancestry etc.
Or something a little less on the nose, Eschenbach, which is the surname of an author/knight/poet who wrote about the holy grail around the 1200's

Would 'Arvinal' work? It means 'dawn' in my world's celestial.
