I started out with Foundry a couple months ago after migrating from Roll20, hosting it from my PC then migrating my game to an AWS EC2 instance. I'm really liking Foundry and really like hosting it remotely. It took some work but I enjoy fiddling with AWS, but now I'm looking at Forge and realizing it's about the same as hosting it myself and I could get some of the AWS features that aren't cost-effective with my single little Foundry server. It would cost more and it kind of feels like paying for Roll20 again.
How is performance on Forge? I don't really feel like going through the export and import pain again unless it's really worth it.
I have just started testing Foundry / Forge for hosting A/V while the game.
I found the controls for moving video chats and muting a bit counter intuitive but once I figured it out, my brother and I conferenced simulated a simple combat and chatted for hours. Foundry is great for providing a map where you can move tokens. And some of the combat features are great, but his barbarian rage wasn't working well at all. And the A/V loaded onto the shared map screen great.
Which do people prefer, and why?

Bottom-line I like Forge's connectivity. :)
I just self-host. I haven't had any issues with it.
WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
