Experience: Moderate Experience Required. This is not a new player friendly campaign, as it is a playtest.
Location/Timezone: US PDT
Schedule: Friday, 10:00 PDT
Occurrence: Every other Week
Roles sought: Players (1-2)
Setting
This game takes place in a fully developed homebrew world that has been built from the ground up over nearly 4 years thanks to the help of other DMs and players new and old. It is a personal creation, similar in to the years following the collapse of the Roman Empire.
The world is rich in political intrigue and outer Realms to be explored.
**Note**
This is an active campaign (only 2 sessions in). Due to an unforeseen change in schedules, 1-2 slots have opened. The game is scheduled for Friday (07/23) at 1100 PDT. A character built to 5th level must be completed and approved before 0800 (07/23).
The Hook
In 1170 AE, the weight of Brobania’s empire finally collapsed. Desperate times fell on the common folk in this Kingdom of Men just as an age of unified power drew to an end. Then, prosperity bloomed with the promise of Acranists from a kingdom far to the South, offering opportunity in all ways of new infrastructure with a basis on magic study. Uptake was slow, but over the course of a few decades, every major barony had a mage to call their own. Small towns still flounder, work scarce for laborers in the wake of spells proving faster than a weary pair of hands. Some recall why anti magic sentiment grew into all out war in the first place. Local taverns are flush with men and women eager for work, exactly the place to go for someone desperate in need for cheap, willing labor.
You were fortunate enough to find work for a foreign man deep in the woods.
The job seems simple enough: protect an elderly (possibly delusional) arcanist from whatever he believes is out to get him. You don’t think much of the contract you sign to enter his employment, though it is odd how he insists the agreement isn’t official until you sit down to dinner…
Who am I?
I have been playing TTRPGs for around 5 years and GMing for the past 3 years so I have some experience. My games host a lot of opportunity for RP and exploration, puzzle solving, with at least 1 encounter/session. I always prefer the Rule of Cool over RAW.
What are the rules?
Be kind to one another, don't interrupt unnecessarily and don't be a rules-lawyer. We're all here to have some fun and to enjoy the game. You'll need a discord account for communication and a roll20 account for in game visuals and battle maps.
What can you expect?
This will start as a playtest campaign to place players in a realm yet to be traversed by any daring adventuring party. The party will start at level 3, most races/classes are up for grabs, even playtest races.
Why Free?
TTRPGs have been heavily monetized by DMs/GMs that claim a financial investment is the only way to incentivize role-play, punctuality, and fun. In my opinion, it guts the entire basis of TTRPGs at their core. That being said, I invest a great deal of my time into games and as such, reserve the right to hold players accountable for any unsavory behaviors.
