Hey guys I am looking at running a D&D 5e Lost Mine of Phandelver game in the near future. I still need to read the module and what not. I have been a DM for 5e for quite awhile and even done a Star Wars FFG for a few months. However, in 5e I have never done a module so this will be a first experience for me. I am looking for a group of 4 or 5 players.
If the game goes beyond one session (idk how long this module is or how long it will take to completion) then games will be bi-weekly.
REQUIREMENTS:
~Must have a discord
~Must use DnDBeyond for character sheets with the Beyond 20 browser extension for ease of understand what kind of random bullshit the wildmagic sorcerer is trying to do. You know who you are.
~Must be accustomed to Central Standard Time and/or Eastern Time.
Homebrew is allowed but must be ran by me first.
DISCLAIMER
I am not looking for rules lawyers or problem players. If your idea of fun is RAW then this is not your game. I have a decent understanding of the rules in 5e but I will not claim to be a pro who has read the books cover to cover. That would be a lie and I simply do not have the time, motivation or coffee needed. I know just enough to run a game. I will not allow a game to be drawn to a halt over a ruling dispute. That can wait until after the session in one on one discussion where we discuss the problem at hand. Other rules I will go ahead and mention now are things such as no intentionally screwing over your fellow players or enforcing your Lawful Good paladin will onto the kleptomaniac rogue. Nobody likes that guy. No shit moves like taking all the loot from a chest just because you were the first one to see it. Sharing is caring unless its scale lice. Keep that to yourself. A little bit of an inside joke that last line. No coffee locks. I can AND WILL nerf that faster than evolution did to the cheetah. Ok so if you are reading this line that only means you read through my block of whatever that just spewed from my head and I congratulate you. If you have any questions or concerns please DM me on Discord at SheudenFritz#1409 and I will respond as soon as I see your message. Thank you for reading my block of text.
I'm interested but how do you rule the Darkness spell?
A.) The way it should be with Disadvantage only on attacker if they can't see (because of heavily obscured target) acting much like the blinded status and there can be no disadvantage on the defender because defending a melee/spell attack is against its AC only and no roll therefor no second dice for disadvantage and 2 blind people do not cancel each other out and attack as normal they just both flounder around. OR,
B.) The dumb way where DM's cancels out the darkness incorrectly by saying since both the target and attacker have disadvantage (wrong defender has no disadvantage to defend because it's not a saving throw or ability check it's a standard attack roll against AC and AC has no roll therefore can not have an added dice for disadvantage) basically believes 1blind person + 1blind person = no blind person (which is totally moronic) and thus rules the darkness spell has no effect (again moronic) and they avoid it because sucks to be them, their monsters or anybody else in magical darkness that can't see.. AKA the point of the spell?
Sorry, a little salty because last DM chose B. and without allowing rebuttal and rule zeroed on me just to win and wouldn't even talk about at table.
