Plot Hook
The adventure begins in a private meeting room of the tavern A Pair of Black Antlers, located in the holy city of Elturel. This tavern is the unofficial headquarters of the Order of the Gauntlet, a faction of holy warriors sworn to fight against the forces of evil.
Ontharr Frume, a good-natured paladin of Torm and leader of the local Order of the Gauntlet, is holding a secret meeting with Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard* leader of the Flaming Fist, and Gideon Lightward, a priest of Lathander. The three leaders are organizing against the Cult of the Dragon.
Each of the characters attend this meeting either independently or on behalf of one of the following factions:
The Order of the Gauntlet
A coalition of morally upstanding warriors, knights, paladins and clerics who dedicated themselves to the destruction of evil in Faerûn. They were a unified group, bonded by either their fervent religious beliefs or staunch dedication to enforcing justice in the realms. To these brothers and sisters in arms, evil had to be dealt with and could not be ignored.
The Flaming Fist
A mercenary company based in the city of Baldur's Gate on the Sword Coast, where its members served as city guards. They are one of the most powerful and expensive fighting forces in all the Realms, motivated primarily by the promise of riches and the glory of victory, though they edged on the side of promoting order throughout the Realms.
The Hellriders
An elite cavalry unit acting as the primary armed force of the city of Elturel in the Western Heartlands. The Hellriders helped Elturel establish and maintain civilization in these harsh lands. They are one of the most renowned and well-regarded military forces in the Realms. For a city guard, they outmatched the armies of whole realms.
This campaign features
Avernus
the 1st layer of the 9 hells, the primary battleground for the Blood War, it’s the most likely beachhead for any attack by demon-kind, legions of devils marched across its plains in continual readiness to repel the hordes of demon invaders that sailed the River Styx into the layer
The domain of Archdevil Zariel, a Zealous, a Warmonger hellbent on winning against the Demons in the Blood War
Mad Max in hell, Infernal Warmachines
Infernal war machines are vehicles built in the Nine Hells and fueled by the souls of the damned. Smaller war machines carry raiding parties or scouts. Larger, more menacing war machines can crush entire hordes of demons or deliver shock troops behind enemy lines.
Infernal war machines are made of infernal iron and bristle with spikes, blades, chains, and siege weapons, their engine roars a bass, growling rumble with an undertone of agonized screams as its furnace burns souls for fuel.
By acquiring an infernal war machine, characters can travel quickly across Avernus—a domain rife with tortured souls, warmongers, and devils eager to tempt would-be heroes into soul-corrupting deals.
Baldur’s Gate
a viper's nest of schemes and schemes, also called simply called the Gate, was the largest metropolis and city-state on the Sword Coast. It’s a crowded city of commerce and opportunity, perhaps the most prosperous and influential merchant city on the western coast of Faerûn.
The strong peace-keeping force known as the Watch, along with the presence of the powerful Flaming Fists mercenary company, kept the city generally peaceful and safe. This inherent sense of security allowed the Gate to keep a tolerant and welcoming attitude towards outsiders, whether they were wealthy merchants, poor refugees or, as it historically attracted, less-scrupulous individuals such as pirates and smugglers
About Me
Hi, I'm a 16 year old DM (he/him) turning 17 this year, I have 3 years of experience of playing D&D and have mainly DMed starting January of 2021, for official Modules I've DMed a bit of Lost Mine of Phandelver and Ghost of Saltmarsh, Death House
For Homebrew, I've DMed Wildemount set in the freezing Greying Wildlands with the Frozen Sick adventure as a jumping off point
The only other campaign I'm actively DMing for as of now is a Homebrew Eberron game set in Sharn
Even with that, I'm still a bit on the newer side of DMing, and there will likely be moments where I fumble and stutter, take a while to say something and the like
I’m a DM who strives to be mechanically competent, having a deep comprehensive knowledge of the rules, understand the design of the game while also aiming to be a competent storyteller and actor
About the Game
This game will have Combat, Social and Exploration pillars in equal amounts, and the campaign will occasionally shift from favoring one or the other depending on the situation of the story, using RP to Combat ratios would be disingenuous
i.g, a dungeon crawl coming up, or getting to Point A to B through enviormental hazards, or quelling civil outrage and the like
But expect each pillar to be in depth and detailed with my best to stick to RAW and my own DM intuition but mainly favoring the former,
Expect
Challenging and tactical combat with varied enemies accompanied by various strategies with pulpy descriptions of violence
Interesting NPCs, groups and factions with their goals, needs and desires with acting to the best of my abilities
Descriptions of hellish vistas, puzzles and environmental hazards to be immersed to and problem solve your way around
Tone & Theme

Dark Fantasy
Wasteland
This is a tough ride, and it gets pretty dark. As the title suggests, at some point we will actually go to Hell. It's a bad place, with bad things.
You have to be smart, use your resources to your advantage. Not every encounter can be won with strength of arms. There are creatures that will kill you as soon as look at you. Not every encounter can be won with a silver tongue. There are creatures who don't care what you do
Overall be serious gritty and grounded, but there will of course be moments of levity amidst the serious things
Why run Avernus with Alexandrian remix?
I've heard loads of problems with the way the module is written, and conveniently, there's a giant extensive writeup that's been praised and from an author I like, the titular Alexandrian that I will be using alongside my own fiat for things, if you've read this far put the word Kwetiau in your application
The remix aims to basically restructure and throw out a lot of the needless bloat to make it a more robust, seamless and overall better written and immersive adventure, this not only means there will be more player agency this not only goes for plot, but NPCs, encounters and situations and the like
Rules
