Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online using Discord, D&D Beyond and whatever VTT the DM prefers / age 21+ / LGBTQ+ & GSM welcome! Location/Timezone: Western Europe Availability: Saturday evening around 7 pm / session usually aimed for 3 - 4 hours - the DM has a bit of agency in terms of session length for sure Game style: We’d love to get into all 3 pillars of the game in a gritty but classic fantasy setting, serious but not too serious so to speak, we all like to joke above table but consequences for ingame actions should be realistic Hi, and thank you for checking out this post! We are 5 players from Europe who are looking to get into a longer term campaign together. All of us played a few shorter adventures and now want to expand on that by committing to a longer term journey where we really build our characters beyond tier 1 play and can feel the impact our decisions will have multiple sessions down the line. Our group consists of 3 players from Germany, 1 from France and 1 from the UK. For our DM we are looking for someone who is passionate about the game, be it homebrew or a module, we want to be invested in the world you take us to. We're all here to have a good time but also want the DM to have an amazing time putting challenges in front of us and being an integral part of cool moments within the campaign, keeping secrets and plotting long term.
We almost all already have character concepts in mind and would enjoy fleshing these out together with our DM as well as finding ties to the world we will play in where it fits. We’d enjoy having a well balanced group where everyone gets to shine a bit and want to keep our character sheets secret from one another so we get to explore everyone’s class and story through play. I personally think that is a very compelling idea vs just having all the information through a D&D beyond campaign up front. We’d enjoy it if you would help us make that happen by taking the time with each player to talk about their character separately. I would love to talk more about the things we’d enjoy seeing in the campaign together and if you are a good fit, so answer to this post if you are interested and maybe give us a small prompt to what world, journey, vibe you’d want to run for us. If it seems like we love the idea you pitch I’ll send you my discord contact so we can get to know each other and set everything else up. We’re looking to start early June, so there is plenty of time for more campaign planning after we have talked! Please feel free to ask any questions you might have below or lmk if I left out anything important so I can add it into the head post later! Thanks for reading, looking forward to talking more! <3
Hi. I am down to see if I could be the right fit for your group. If you want a modual I have run curse of strahd not to long ago and could run that for you. I'm also working on a new world with a few campaign possebileties if you would be interested in that. Here is the handout for that campaign:
Safiria - A Battle of Gods
The Curse of Zar
28 years ago a darkness started spreading from the north. The darkness contains monsters devouring everything within it. The darkness is constantly expanding covering more and more of Safiria (the world).
The Gods
The Curse of Zar has changed the veil between gods and the creatures living in Safiria. While some gods seem to be unable or unwilling to interact with the creatures living here, other have grown ever closer and are often intervening in Safiria. The most prominent of these gods are:
Zar – The god of darkness, destruction and gluttony.
Zalim – Zalim looks as all life as valuable. Everyone is of equal worth and everyone should help those in need even if the cost to your self would be great. If everybody help everyone and shared everything Safiria would be a better place and there would be enough resources to go around.
Drakim – Nothing is given, nothing is free, and everyone needs to work for what they want. It is each individual’s responsibility to provide for yourself first and fore most and then those you love.
Thanatos – Due to several instances of creatures that have died not staying dead. Thanatos has taken an interest in Safiria and to keep those who have died dead.
Esmeralda
There are rumors going far and wide about the city Esmeralda. A city where some of the greatest mages and fighter in the world have gathered and now lives. The city is known for rewarding capable people handsomely and to be a safe haven for refugees. Many have found their place in Esmeralda the last couple of years and the city is growing faster than anyone could have imagined.
Starting situations
Make your characters backstory using the backgrounds in 5E and supplement with your own writing. The story will start in or on the way to Esmeralda. There is two possible prologs:
You joined a caravan traveling to Esmeralda. The story picks up while you are traveling on the road. (Recommended for those who will be participating from session 1).
You already live in Esmeralda and the story picks up in Esmeralda when you where you meet the rest of the group. (Recommended for those who join in later on).
The Campaign
I wanted this world to have a similar feeling as to playing Fallout or Skyrim. Where there are sevral factions/ groups with different and opposing goals. And to let the players decide who they would like to support. The setting is more to the feel of classic DnD, with with high magic and low tech. Most of the work for this campaign has gone into building Esmeralda. Filling it with story rich characters, mysteries and intrigues. The Curse of Strahd adventure has been prepared in case the players would like a break from the busy streets of Esmeralda. Currently working on flashing out other minor locations in Safiria and one big secret yet to be discovered. The RP to combat ratio will be determined by the party.
Rules
D&D 5E will be the base rules for the campaign.
Nothing from 5E is banned (spells, traits etc.).
Group/ party size will be between 2-8 players. 6 is ideal.
When you have completed your character sheet and backstory, I intend to send you a personal document with some of the information your character would know based on his or her background.
We will use group milestone leveling. (The group level together at the end of a session after X amount of events/ tasks have been completed).
If a player has to miss a session, they will still get to level along with the party. They will however not be able to claim any of the loot the party might accurate during that session.
If a player misses several sessions they will receive a warning. If they keep missing sessions, their place in the party will be opened up for a new player to take it.
Resurrections might invoke the wrath of Thanatos, especially if the person has been dead for a long time and now belongs with the dead.
All homebrew content must be approved by DM.
Changing characters: The first few sessions will be a play testing phase. If you are unhappy with your character, all changes will be allowed between sessions. This phase ends when the party reaches level 3. After that point, characters can no longer freely change and will have to die or retire for the player to switch out their character with another one.
Point buy system will be used to distribute ability points.
If it is unclear for the DM if one character can reach another or not, when not using a map with squares to show distance, the ruling will be granted to the character that is trying to reach another. This goes for spells, melee, help actions and so on.
Enemies with low intelligence will most likely attack whomever they see first or is closest.
Enemies with higher INT will likely try to attack whoever is more optimal to take out.
Enemies will normally not priorities unconscious characters.
Good RP is rewarded with Inspiration.
If anyone have situations, acts or topics they would like the campaign to stay clear of based on their real-life values, faith or experiences. Give me a heads up on what topic that is and we will stay clear of those.
I appreciate feedback. Never hesitate to send me a message if you have something you would like to discuss. I will always interoperate feedback as you trying to help improve the overall experience for the group, and I will focus on not taking it personally.
Hit me up if any of this sounds interesting to you.
I like what I have been reading, i'll make sure to get back to you tomorrow after i'm done with work, sounds very interesting so far. Do you plan to expand outside the city as the adventure goes on into later levels? Meaning smaller villages and exploring wilderness maybe uncovering landmarks and to the player unknown other, let's say, settled territories or is it more focussed around the immediate area of Esmeralda for most of the playtime? Not that that would be a problem, I am just genuinely curious and couldn't help but ask :D
Great to hear. I want to have the world open to fit what the players would like. The story picks up on the road and I have several events planed before the party will reach Esmeralda. Once you get to Esmeralda, the players can come in to contact with any number of ppl. Giving them quest, missions, jobs or providing oppertuneties. Esmeralda can be used as a HUB for the early game. And there are plot points to discover there, but if that is not what the group is interested in it can easely just use it as a HUB. Want to settle a smale village and connect a treade rout to Esmeralda- There are ppl in Esmeralda that would like you to do that and would pay you and provide resources to do so. Would you like to joine a thief's guild and go on stealth missions - Esmeralda has it. Want to become merchents or pirets and travel the sea - convince some ppl in Esmeralda and they could make that happen for you.
In short: No Esmeralda is not the be all, end all of this campaign. Sure It will work as a HUB and have some events happen there, but mostly I have tried to provide an open world where you/ the players will be able to shape your destenies and affect the world as you go along. But put some greedy merchants, a covenant of paladins and a thiefs guild in the same city and the chances of thing not happening I would assess to be pretty low. At least that is my thoughts.
If anyone is interested we are still open, so feel free to just drop a message here and i'll get back to you so we can have a chat in discord. Just thought i'd bump this again because we are not closed as of now :D
