Looking for one player to hop into a campaign that has been recently begun, set in my own world created for a book which I began writing 2 years ago.
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online / Voice through Discord / Roll20 + DnD Beyond for Rolls and Combat Experience: Pretty new to DnD itself but experienced in roleplaying, writing and story/world crafting. Location/Timezone: I am based in GMT but aslong as you are able to make the allocated time it shouldn't be a problem. We currently have 2 players in CET and 1 in EST. Schedule: 18:00 GMT to 21:00-22:00 GMT on Sundays (finish time is generally 21:00 due to certain members needing to sleep however sometimes we slightly overrun). Roles sought: Already 4 sessions into the campaign, however issues have arose with getting all 3 to be available and I want to always run it with 3 minimum, so I'd like 4 players to counteract that. As such I am currently only looking for 1 player to join at the moment. Game style: Casual group environment but in a serious world. A lot of roleplay but with (hopefully) well-placed and memorable moments of combat. Low-fantasy themes but with the relatively rare existence of high-fantasy magic and creatures (depending on what we're talking about).
Happy to take on any experience level of player. 18+ is kind of necessary due to certain themes and topics however. Only apply if you're open-minded and understanding of all walks of life. Be prepared to witness many injustices while not always being able to do anything about them depending on the situation! You will not be coddled, actions have consequences. You may be powerful, but you are not a one man army nor are you exempt from a cities laws - act with the sensibilities, awareness and caution that you would in the real world (appropriate to and in line with the context and your character's power & personality of course).
The most important thing that I must stress is that this IS a low-fantasy world, and as such many of the traditional DnD/Fantasy options will be limited. Magic is shunned due to people believing it to be an art invented by the Elves, and as such its use must be handled secretly wherever possible. The only "civilised" species that currently exists on the continents you will be inhabiting (for the longest time) is Humans - as such you will be playing at a disadvantage if you play as anything else (though I do not outright discourage this, we have a hadozee, a fairy and an aasimar (who is the only one to appear as Human)). Human's are mistrustful of other cultures let alone species - they are seen as creations from the experiments of Elves, although depending on your race chosen you could have ended up here accidentally from a different world with no way to return. Fantasy beasts & monsters do exist across the world, but at the very most they live in remote parts as tribes, however more often than not they roam individually or in packs as some kind of "family unit". The only two species in the world that are "civilised" are Humans and Elves, though Elves have not been seen in the Northlands since the Great Changing a little under 650 years prior to the start of the campaign.
As long as you're the kind of person who thinks you might enjoy getting involved in and learning about the lore of the world as well as using your creativity and imagination to explore and engage with it then I'm sure you'll find a decent amount of depth and enjoyment out of what has been created. I have a few paragraphs of simplified world context written if you'd like to know more about the kind of world you'd be playing in, and am more than happy to offer insight if you'd like to play something established within the world.
I am always more than happy to cater to homebrew at my own discretion - do not worry I've already allowed/created a lot that people have requested, just ask, the worst answer you can receive is no. You will have to select from a stat spread of about 3 options (be prepared you will have to take one -2 xD). And forgive me when I don't allow some of your choices for race.
Wanting to find the right kind of person to fit into our group, so do not be offended by the fact that I'd like to chat to everyone first before settling on a player. We can all hopefully make some new friends and meet other like-minded individuals. Thank you for your consideration :)
A few questions. Are you doing this over AboveVVT? Dose your world have guns in it? How do paladins/clerics play into the anti magic society? Are there limited races or classes/sub classes? Multi classing? Starting level 1?
Thank you for your queries, and in answer to your questions;
1) If I'm being honest I hadn't heard about VVT; we're using discord for comms, Roll20 if we are doing combat, and D&D Beyond for rolls (although you can use Roll20 for rolls also if you'd like).
2) The world is late medieval and gunpowder is only just being developed in a far corner of the world. So I suppose no not just yet.
3) Paladins and Clerics, like most others are accepted depending on the spells they use and the context of it. Healing someone in need using "power granted by the gods" is generally accepted in most situations, however cursing someone in public out of spite would put an angry mob on you. Using harmful magic in a gladiators match would be accepted given the context of survival for example, however don't expect the entire crowd to love you, and be prepared to have insults or rotten fruit possibly being thrown at you later on in that same town. Ultimately it all depends on the context in which it is used and the people who are there to witness it; what they've been taught and their cultures views on it. Specific cultures can be more accepting, whereas some outright shun it - most fall into simply being scared of it.
4) No limited sub classes I believe, unless they really don't fit into the world although I can't think of any off of the top of my head. There are lots of limited races however, and I think that would be something easier discussed in call during character creation. Some examples that are allowed; Tabaxi, Minotaur, Bugbear, Firbold, Goliath & Lizardfolk. The origins of the races creation and why they exist would be altered from traditional D&D to fit into the world however. Be warned that you will be discriminated against in lots of different ways if you are not Human, however you are not alone because 2/3rds of the current party has already been dealing with this.
5) Multi-classing is absolutely allowed, we have a wizard and rogue, but also a cleric with warlock/bard.
6) You would be starting at level 4 as players started at level 2 at the beginning, advancing to level 3 and then 4 relatively quickly. The levels will be slowly down massively now though especially when they reach 5. It is milestone based.
So during a session all the environment is described as you go or are you using a map system that isn't VVT? The VVT is AboveVVT and it's very useful in that it has maps that are graphed out and ways to keep track of AoEs as well as placement of things in the environment.
It’s been over 10 years since I played but I would enjoy it as it sits right now it’s 9 o’clock. I don’t know what time it is for you but I would be interested and I am available at many random times random times so I’m really interested in this
I'm interested, really interested. I would love to join if you would have me, and willing to teach a newbie. I love the idea of a real world setting with low fantasy setting and real world consequences.
I've been looking all over for a sunday campaign. I've never missed a session in my bi-weekly friday campaign and sunday's are a big wide open day for me every week.
I love the game and the roleplay. Down to play whatever class your party is missing.
Easily seen, there are plenty of interest parties. However, if you are still looking for the right fit, i would love to be considered. Im new to dnd for the most part but have played other similar roleplaying games. I love the idea of a group dedicated to a long term campaign and would love to be a part of it. i live in eastern U.S., for time zone purposes and currently have an open schedule.
Are you still looking for a player??? If so I would like to join, Ive played a few games befor and Dm one of my own so i have little to some experience in pre generated campaigns but not a homebrew one so I want to changed that and to understand how one is done and created and played. I live in the UK and am free most Sundays, just a heads up, I will be quiet to start of with but will open up a bit when i get into something I like.
If you have any question on things you can reach me on discord Raven#0817
