I am checking if there is interest in an EST afternoon/evening weekday live-text homebrew game with the 5.5/2024 rules. If there's interest in this format, I'll write up a more detailed synopsis for a potential campaign.
For scheduling, the potential times for sessions would be **Tuesday** or **Wednesday** late afternoon to evening **EST time zone**. Just to head off needless discussion on this point -- **you don't need to ask about alternative times because there are none**. I am unable to ever play on the weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) because of work, and I am not getting up early in the morning to run a game.
In terms of format, I want to run a **text-based** game. That means all the game narration would be typed in Discord channels. Being able to touch-type and read fairly quickly would be key to successful participation, as well as having a certain baseline facility with written communication (i.e., you can write complete sentences with subclauses with correct punctuation without difficulty). If you're not able to consistently meet expectations like avoiding abbreviations and emoji speech, correctly and consistently capitalizing words and using sentence and paragraph breaks, and consistently observing subject-verb number agreement (i.e., singular/plural verbs with singular/plural subjects), then this will not be a good fit for the kind of experience I am aiming for. I am not interested in running a game with any voice-chat element. I do not enjoy talking on microphones over Discord.I have rarely run sessions over Discord where someone did not have a significant tech issue with a microphone, and I am just not going to torture myself with the format any longer. This element is also not up for discussion. If I am unable to get a group that wants to do a text game, I will simply not run it at all.
In terms of format, I will use Discord for text and (potentially) rolling via a dice bot. I'm going to post some maps here of GIGAmacro (https://gigamacro.com). This will be for area, continent, and city maps. I have 200,000 x 200,000 pixel multi GB maps, and this is the only site that will display that. I'll have a lot of AI mood art to illustrate people/places/things I may also use a site with 3d dice for rolling. Discord will also be used for game visuals. Maps will be on the Tableplop vtt (Tableplop: Digital tools for legendary games), canva (Home - Canva), or lucidraw (https://www.lucidchart.com) (the latter two are electronic white boards).
