Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online [Roll20/Discord] Experience: New Location/Timezone: Currently both EDT and CDT. Schedule: Bi-weekly, will have to be on a weekday evening as my friend wakes up very early to work weekends. Details beyond that still to be determined. Roles sought: 1 to 2 more players to fill out a party of 4 to 5 tops. Being a new DM I worry more than that would be too much for me manage. Game style: Sandbox with a focus on exploration. Political intrigue and war can also potentially play a heavy roll, but will depend on how my players decide to approach things. Roleplay will be a focus, but that's not too say everything has to be deadly serious. Joking around is more than welcome.
Synopsis
In an age past, the gods themselves walked the roving mountains and lush landscapes on the continent of Aileth. They ruled their people with a kind yet just hand, and were worshiped by those who sought to follow their legacy. Then two hundred years ago, they all vanished as our world crossed briefly into others, and in their wake fragments of those other worlds were left behind: from fiendish monsters to entire cities mysteriously appearing from nothing.
Shortly after their disappearance, the Council of Ruviel was formed in hopes of maintaining the teachings of their lost Divines. And within mere decades, across the Great Sea on the far off land of Nithia, the powerful necromancer Virgo Caelius rose to power, claiming to be the incarnation of a "new" god. He conquered and brought together the scattered city states with his army of wights, the Nameless Legion, and founded the Nithian Order. Shortly thereafter, Caelius set his sights on conquering the provinces of Aileth.
In the present, war rages across the broken and dying lands, as the Council seeks to continue the path their lost gods set them down, while the Order seeks to become the arbiter of their own path. And amidst it all, a great shadow lurks over Aileth, as the truth of what became of their dead gods is lost to time...
I'm new completely to DM'ing. I've read both the PHB and DMG quite thoroughly, but have no experience actively running a game yet, so please be patient as I get a feel for things. Roll20 will be required for dice rolls, combat, and for use of a world map. You're free to use either D&D Beyond or Roll20 for their character sheets. Most communication will likely be on Discord though, as I've created a server specifically for my group.
hi! your game sounds like fun, would you mind if i join? i do have a few magic heavy classes already made but i'm open to making a new character if need be.
Absolutely! Pre-made characters are fine, just so long as they’re level 1. Mechanically I only plan to use official content, so any changes to races/classes will be cosmetic story changes. All the features and traits will be same.
And pretty much all official content is allowed, with a few exceptions. Specifically no Aasimar player characters are allowed for story reasons.
