Hey you! Have you ever wanted to play Curse of Strahd, but never had the chance? Maybe you have tried to play it before, but the game always fizzles out! Luckily for you, you now have a chance to start playing one of the most praised adventures in D&D history - and this time actually finish!
My name is Shane, and I'm a professional DM that has been running paid Curse of Strahd games for years. "Why pay for D&D?", I hear you ask, "People play for free all the time!" Yes they do! But there's actually several advantages to paying a professional to DM this game for you:
1. Experience I know this module like the back of my hand, and I've improved it in several ways! No adventure is perfect, but having gone through it as a player myself, then run it for multiple different groups, I've learned precisely what makes the adventure fun and what doesn't. I also utilize techniques that newer DMs don't know to yet, like ways to make combat feel less rote or slow, or how to give your characters motivation to act through organic plot hooks (instead of just railroading).
2. Reliability I do this for a living, so I am not going to lose steam or quit on you midway through. This also means that your fellow players are invested as well, and won't want to quit after paying for numerous sessions already. People just generally don't like to flake when their money is involved. Besides which, the money that I make goes directly to feeding, clothing, and raising my nearly 2-year-old daughter, so I REALLY have an incentive to make this the best game that I can for you!
3. Passion If I run the same adventure over and over as my job, you gotta believe at least one of two things: that I'm either crazy as all get-out, or that I genuinely love this story (or both). I can vouch for the latter: I've read the original Ravenloft adventures, the Strahd novels (yes there's multiple), and studied other DM's experiences running this game. On top of all of that knowledge, I've redone almost all of the character art from the game in my style for the tokens, which I'll be doing for your characters too as well! (Nothing breaks my immersion more than wildly conflicting character art!)
Curse of Strahd is a roleplay heavy campaign with a slightly more serious tone than your usual D&D fare. Combats are not as frequent, but they are often difficult or even deadly if you are not prepared! Some mature themes will also be explored, given the nature of this gothic-horror setting.
I have several openings for Mondays 3pm, Tuesdays 3pm or 8pm, and Thursdays 8pm (EST). We play a revised version of D&D 5e (2014) called "😎Cool 5e" which aims to fix a lot of issues that the original rules had without changing the game too drastically, and we use Roll20 and Discord to play. There will be a Session 0 to go over expectations and rules before we finalize anything, so no worries there! Each group can accommodate up to 6 players, though a minimum of 3 is all that is required to get started.
