You can visit the Wizards of the Coast website they have a store finder that will show you stores near you where they have regular games. The stores are generally friendly and willing to awnser any questions. Alternatively you can use online virtual tabletops, personally I prefer roll20.net. This is a great way to play with other online, though normally the DM/players ratio is such that you could have trouble finding a game as player, so its best if you coral some friends into playing with you.
You absolutely can play online. I personally use a mixture of a discord server and roll20.net. Roll20 is a great tool for playing dnd online that you should check out.
If there is enough interest, I may start up a new-player campaign soon.
Replying to bump this up. I'm interesting in meeting folks in the SE or Central areas (I'm in Bermondsey) to play.
I'm from Australia and will be in London for 18 months, looking to capitalise on a larger D&D player base.
I can DM but really enjoy playing too.
2017 would like to meet for a one shot or two. 2018 I would like to run or play Tomb Of Annihilation. Would prefer face to face because I spend so much time on computers already.
If you're in London and looking to play some casual D&D, there's a few meetup.com groups - I'm part of one called London RPG Community and we run a weekly west marches-style campaign on Tuesday evenings around Holborn. We have a few other GM/DMs who run their own campaigns through our meetup as well.
Edit: A bit of an update since this was posted in 2018, London RPG Community meets in two locations each week; Tuesdays at Bad Moon Cafe in Borough, and Thursdays at Craft Beer Co Limehouse. The Kantas Expanse is open to new players, play as much or as little as you like, most sessions tend to be one shots within the persistent campaign setting, and we have seasonal story arcs, like you have on TV as well. We're currently in our 4th season story.

Hey,
Any groups in South London? I've just gotten into dnd via Critical Role, been watching for a year now, and I'm super hyped to get into it!
