INTRODUCTION I'll be brief on the game's lore and style; greater details will be given to the selected players.
But first... For your sake. I think you should read the CONTENT WARNING alongside my RED FLAGS FOR PLAYERS; if they're not an issue, I'd take a look at the game overview and mechanics section. If you're still interested at that point, you should read how to apply.... However, please note that I prefer players aged between 20 and 35. If you're older or younger, it's not a total exclusion, but... I'm 25 and looking for players who share interests with me and others in the group. Actually liking my players and being liked by them is key to a game's longevity.
WORLD / LORE . You died, but instead of damnation or salvation, you awaken within another world. . Most within this new world are born here, mundane. However, many like you exist; you and others like you are referred to as "Mirrorborn," reflections of another world. . The tone of the game is akin to Curse of Strahd, except there are more aberrations, civilisations, and VERY occasional advanced technologies because of other mirrorborn. Players can, within reason, bring some advanced technology, but it's limited to items you can physically carry, such as a smartphone or gun.
MECHANICAL CHANGES . Player Rules: All players receive a bonus feat, receive max health, and are human. Starting Level 3... Staying human is optional... (Demonic Deals, Vampirism/Lycanthropy, Mutations, ETC.) . Average Damage: Monsters will deal averagedamage instead of rolling; players may always decide to deal average or roll. . Magical Items: All magical items in-game are custom; don't expect any from 5e books. All magical items will be found, never bought. . Monsters: In addition to some custom monsters, I'll be implementing minions, elites, and boss monster templates, which can massively influence combat (think 3.5/Pathfinder). These templates are not limited to enemies alone; a village militiaman might become an ally minion in the right circumstance. . Minions immediately die when struck by damaging attacks, spells, or effects from players, elites, and boss monsters. Against all other creatures, they have 50% of their normal maximum HP (rounded down). They cannot score critical hits, deal half damage to players, and suffer disadvantage on any saving throw or contested roll (such as grapples) made against a player, elite, or boss monster. . Elite: +10 HP, maximum result for all hit dice, +1 to all rolls and AC, +2 to two ability scores or +4 to one. . Boss Monster: Boss monsters receive all bonuses of elite monsters; however, they additionally gain legendary resistance and actions. If a creature is made into a boss, and it already possesses legendary resistance or actions, it will not receive more by becoming a boss monster. Lastly, boss monsters survive the first lethal damage dealt, and do not fall unconscious, even at 0 HP without suffering at least 5 more damage; whenever at 0 HP and conscious, they're considered prone and immobile, but not helpless...
CONTENT WARNING. . AI Usage: I'll use AI portraits and, potentially, battlemaps at times. I'm neutral with AI, seeing both dangers and boons; I consider it a boon for D&D. . Content Warning: The game will avoid explicit sexual content; implied is fine (fade to black). The game contains dark subject matter such as drug abuse, the weaponization or death of children, and torture; however, most won't be explicitly described... My goal is to create a dark fantasy game that avoids the weirdly mean-spirited, edgy bullshit most online tabletop groups fall victim to when attempting such a thing.
MY RED FLAGS FOR PLAYERS. . Party infighting: This is allowed if tastefully done, but beef IRL is not allowed at the table. The problem player/players will be removed after repeated offenses. I hope friendships can develop to at least some degree here, but I won't tolerate myself or anyone else being treated poorly. . Politics: They're a major part of life, and I accept that they will inevitably bring them up, even if I hope we can avoid them in-game. This is supposed to be a fun escape from life, where I can hopefully meet some cool and interesting people. The thing is, such conversations should remain respectful if had; none of that Reddit hive mind tribalism bullshit, no supernatural hate boner for the side opposite to yourself, please. . Serious Sexism, Racism, Homophobia, ETC: Yeah, jokes can be fine. It's when you mean it or seem to fixate on it in a weird way that I have issues.
APPLICATION PROCESS . For those who've gotten this far, I'd appreciate comments or private messages; either is fine by me, that give me a bit of detail about yourself. I have a few pieces of mandatory information and some to avoid. Some of it may be considered inconsequential, but I think it matters... Especially since it proves you read things correctly, an ability some online consider to be... unnatural. . Requirement 1: I want your favorite three pieces of media: Books, Games, Movies, Anime, ETC. If you wish to share more, I won't object! . Requirement 2: Share your character idea, alongside a brief idea of what kinda world they came from before their death. . Requirement 3: Tell me a couple of fun facts about yourself, and why you're interested in this game specifically. . Requirement 4: Avoid saying your gender or real name... Unless your real name is your profile or something, then I forgive you lol.
Hello. My name is Deviant Gazer, but Gazer is just fine. I have read through this entire post, and I am very much intrigued.
I have tajen a heavy interest and fascination with isekai anime as of late (generating a few ideas of my own) and the concept of "Mirrorborn" fits right in there. I have so many questions to ask. But, I have some requirements to fulfill ^^
Reading over the details you have included, it makes my mind buzzing with potential ideas. As I said before I have questions, as my mind tends to work a little better when given limitations. The one comment that really caught my interest was the comment "Staying human is optional". I love the idea of starting human, and becoming more, with a overlaying message of what it is to "be human". I love concepts like that. As for what kind of character, this might sound simplistic, but I would probably aim to create a big bruiser character. The kind of character that can throw a heavy punch and also tank a heavy punch. But, at the same time be approachable and friendly as much as he is threatening and terrifying. I'm a real sucker for the "Giant with a heart of gold" character. Of course, the character starting out wont be like that, but that is what I might lean towards; a character who aims for big dreams and gets big. As for what kind of world my character would come from, it could be similar to our world but with a few minor changes. It's honestly hard to figure out at the current moment.
My three favorite pieces of media, at the first is 100% pokemon. It was my very first cartoon series, very first video game, and has had a death grip on my mind and soul ever since its original conception. The second one is anime, and my favorite at the moment is Boko no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia. Fantastic world building, really interesting power system, arguably the most realistic take on superheroes, great characters, a balance of comedic and action; it has a lot of good things going for it. My third favorite is hard to pin down, because Im a mixed bag of things. But I think the third, and this might be cheating, would be Cartoon Network. That station has been my absolute childhood. Shows that range in audience, from silly to serious, Epic to fun, it will always have a very special place in my heart. It makes me a little sad of how it is being treated recently, but that is a somber thought that I do not wish to discuss.
Some fun facts about me:
-I have only one year-long campaign under my belt, but I have been engaging in many role plays with several friends who DM campaigns, so technically I have about 15+ years of experience in the art of roleplay.
-Ive traveled to about five different countries.
-I am a creative person who loves not only to draw and design, but also like to cook and bake.
-I use voice to text way too much. XD
(I think I've already said why I'm interested in this campaign idea)
I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. I understand that maybe some of this might be a little wordy, but I guess that's just kind of how I am XD There is unfortunately only one thing I need to mention. My current job occupation takes up a majority of my daily schedule. And the days that I do not work, I try to set aside for certain events. So, my availability is very limited. I understand that you will figure out the best time for everyone, I just wanted you to understand that if I was chosen and the time frame is not compatible with my current schedule, I will unfortunately be unable to join. I still appreciate you giving me a chance to do so.
Was thinking I have found a solid group! But it turns out that the biggest beast of em all---timezone constraints, are a big issue lmao. Everyone seems to come from entirely different areas with different schedules. It was pretty silly of me to ignore asking that at first, I've updated it. I still want a few more players The game will be on Friday or Thursday, the time in the day is still very much in the air, as I'm available for the most part on these days and the game time / players will be decided based on WHENEVER I can get 4 players together at the same time.
Hi! I'm a very new player, you didn't mention that in your post so I hope it's ok! You can call me Em, I'm 21 and I'm obsessed with isekai stuff, especially webtoons. My timezone is GMT+1 which is basically British time lol. I have a bunch of free time so my schedule is pretty flexible for whenever other people are free
Favorite three pieces of media:
I'm super bad with choosing favourites honestly, I'm super into playing Grounded 2 right now, Diablo 4 was pretty cool (I should probably get back into it), I've really liked some of Dimension 20's campaigns like Fantasy High. Honestly what takes up a lot of my time is reading isekai fantasy webcomics haha
Character idea, world they came from before death:
It'd be my first time making a proper character for a campaign rather than just making them for fun but I've always been interested in barbarians and fighters so I'd probably go for one of those? Super interested in the 'staying human is optional' thing - I think I'd be most drawn to becoming a lycanthrope or vampire. Overall I'd probably want my character to be semi similar to me since it'd be my first time roleplaying, so they'd be a little socially awkward, maybe anxious around certain people, but happy to get along with everyone and especially go on a quest. I'd imagine them coming from a modern world, maybe similar to ours? I like the idea of my character being in awe of how different of a world they've been put into but I'm not too set on their original world having to be like ours.
Fun facts about myself, and why I'm interested in this game specifically:
Ummm I have 3 cats, I can ride horses? (well idk if I still can, it's been a while), I've liked baking for pretty much my whole life, aaand if you couldn't tell I'm really awkward at socialising. :') But I do really want to play DnD and hopefully make some friends through it! And obviously as I've mentioned I'm super super into isekai stories so this campaign sounds awesome and I really like what you said about wanting players to like each other :p
Hey! I’m in EST. The game sounds super cool and I like the measures you’ve taken to run it quick and smoothly. About me:
1. My top three medias are JJK (Anime), Assassin's Creed (Video Game), and a tie between Star Wars (Literally every kind of media) or ATLA (Anime).
2. Unnamed (so as not to reveal my gender as the name is typically considered binary), a vengeance paladin/hexblade warlock and an ex-Rakdos circus performer. To me, out of the many characters I built, I think they’d fit in well to the campaign, but I have a plethora of characters to choose from bc I really like building them.
3. My fun fact is that my nerdiness extends beyond just playing D&D. As mentioned, I also really like to build characters, writes backgrounds for them, and make minis for them. I’m also an avid MTG player, playing exclusively commander and my fav commander is either Ezio or Eivor because they’re from one of my favorite medias, Assassins Creed.
